Backlink Question?

I think I found a pretty decent little niche I can easily rank for and profit with some good on and off site seo. My question is, I put the keyword into traffic travis after researching it and was wondering if I focus on the top tens backlinks to that page in google top ten or do I look at backlinks to the whole site. I see a amazon and a ebay with low backlinks under 100 and other sites with backlinks around 5 to 800. But thats to the pages that are ranking. Do I look at the larger number of backlinks for the entire site itself? If someone could answer that then id be on a roll.

  • Its targeting a specific brand product.
  • The problem is that you are looking at the numbers of backlinks.

The number of backlinks a website has is irrelevant. It it the quality of the backlinks that counts.

I could give you 10,000 backlinks by tomorrow. - Doesn't mean you will beat these guys.

With so many factors in backlinks these days, it really is impossible to say for sure how easily you can beat the top 10 results. You just need to look at some of the backlinks and determine the overall quality from there.

Also, no backlink tool will return all backlinks to a page, Yahoo/Google/etc never reveal all indexed backlinks for privacy and security reasons so you can never have a 100% chance of knowing if you will beat a site in the SERPs or not.

My suggestion, get out there and build quality links, the only way to know if you can rank number one is by ranking number one.

    • Yes, backlinks need to be quality and not spammed Xrumer links. This is quite different than how it used to be only a year ago. As Google changes we must accept it and adapt.

  • the more the link is on a site which is a relevant similar or related topic to your site plus the greater trust and authority to Google the sites linking to you have then the more power the link will have for your site.

MozRank is a pretty good gauge of trust and authority, though to a certain extent you can just look at a page and see if it is well put together. If it also gets a lot of traffic then that is a good indication too.

I use the firefox plugin SearchStatus by Quirk to quickly show MozRank, Alexa, and PR. Relevance is more important than PR but well themed websites often have high PR
  • Larger number of backlinks to a site will help if the site is dofollow...
Also, you should try to get backlinks from authority sites of your niche. I am using a tool called ‘Keyword Country’ for finding authority websites to get backlinks from.

Do not run after quantity, quality is the only key to successful website.

  • You need to analyze the anchor text also. Back in the day when I did microniche sites I beat other sites that had thousands of backlinks but the backlinks/anchor text were not targeted for that keyword.
  • There is a SECRET SEO strategy, proper planning and a solid bluerint which can outrank ANY competition. You need to figure it out or have to learn from somebody else who knows and have in-depth knowledge of it.
  • Its true number of backlinks doesn't matter now a days.
I have seen websites with very few backlinks on top of google and sites with thousands of website not in top 10
  • According to me, work with white hat, i know processes is long but very beneficial ...
  • In answer to your question,it's the links to the page that you look at,if you want to outrank the page and not the site(kinda tricky with eBay and Amazon!)As has been said above, take stock of your competitor's links, their content,on page SEO etc.
