Are Market Samurai results to be trusted?

Giving up on SEO, wanting to plan out a PPC campaign - something I've noticed is that there are HUGE differences between Market Samurai's AWCPC and Google's Adword Keyword tool's CPC results.

For the same keyphrase, Market Samurai may report 0.00 or 0.2 per click for something google's tool may report 0.6 to 0.8.

It can also flip the complete other way, with MS costs far outshadowing the Google results. Eg Google may show 0.1 for a click, while MS may show 0.9 or so.

So whose results am I to trust? Should I just go with what the Google tool is telling me and ignore the Market Samurai results?

Any experienced opinions?

I am wondering the same thing. I have MS and haven't compared the difference. Im wondering if MS gives an average based on the history of the keyword?

Google wants to sell advertising. If they would give inaccurate data they would shoot themselves in the foot.

That's a very logical response. Are you basically saying to discount the Market Samurai data? As I can't see this being taken any other way, nor can I really see how this could be disputed.

I wonder about that though.. Doing SEO for the past 11 years, I've ranked my site for some high traffic keywords that are searched 4,400 times a month according to Google. And that was "exact" searches. But then the traffic I get is only 1/10th when my site was in the no. 1 position.

And I also ranked my site for keywords that have less than 1,000 searches per month. But my site got way more traffic than 1,000 per month without doing any other promotion.

So, I'm not sure if Google gives an accurate result.

      Just my thought...

I choose to trust Google, because I buy ads from them not Market Samurai.

Google would be more accurate than Market Samurai.
Theres a new tool I started using recently SECockpit, its alot better than MS for keyword selection...it even tells you how much competition there is exactly to get ranked on the 1 page. It's pricey but has alot to offer.

I am getting thoroughly hacked off with Market Samurai - their results are so far off the mark - I have built a number of sites now only to find that the results are nothing like what MS claimed they would be. A lot of time and effort and money completely wasted (unless if you count the value in the learnings!)

Sadly, unlike one guy above, I havent had it where there is a lot MORE traffic than they promise yet, but in a way that would be just as bad really.

Then on to Google itself? You would think that the big G would always be committed to giving accurate results, but if you go look out a recent WSO from a marketer on the Warrior Forum who goes by the pseudonym of Sparrow - you will hear someone explain how for sure Google are only ever giving data results from a month or more ago and that therefore inherently their results can never be accurate given the constantly changing nature of the internet audience.

Decide for yourself. One decision I am coming to is to find something more reliable than Market Samurai, which, to add insult to injury, has, for me anyway, become a whole lot more unstable and seems to crash at the slightest nudge.

      All the best

      Sam

Anyone else experiencing problems with MS to log into Google Adwords? Or is it just me?

  • I've never really been a fan of MS's keyword tool. I use the Google Adwords keyword tool to check exact match traffic and CPC numbers and only use MS to check the front page competition.

So far that combination has worked out incredibly well for me and only a small fraction of the sites that I build do not make page 1 of Google in the first couple of weeks or so.
