This might be controversial but I am just wondering about your opinion, wordpress seems better to me although currently I use blogger. I think because most people say it has more features, is that true? If so please tell me your opinion on this, is blogger or wordpress better in your opinion and tell me why?
#blogger #wordpress
  • For my website, I use wordpress. There's so much customisation, it's unreal. If you're proficient with CSS/HTML, you can create almost anything you want for WP to edit your site. I'm currently into copywriting/content writing, so it's ideal for me, but Im going into web design/graphic design, so it's invaluable for me to know WP anyway.

I'd definitely choose WP over Blogger any day, to sum it up!

    Ben.

Blogger before I know about wordpress. There are so many options and functions in WordPress, which is more organized and flexible. You can choose how to organize your blog and it is easier to control things.

Personally I think Wordpress is incomparably better (and I'm not even a regular Wordpress user, myself), but it doesn't really matter all that much which is "better", Buddha, because for internet marketers Blogger isn't safe to use.

And anyone who actually reads the threads like that all the way through, I imagine, is highly likely to change their mind about using Blogger, and thereby reduce the regular occurrence of all the other threads like this one.

Ok let's just say I wanna use wordpress now. Is there a way to import all my things to wordpress? Anyway, I just started my blog, I have roughly 20 readers maybe. Man this is a little troublesome.

Anyway what do I do with my pending adsense review on my site? The blog URL is under my blogger one. What should I do?

If you can make $100 on blogger you can make $1000 on WordPress...

EARNINGS DISCLAIMER: The above is not a guarantee of earnings but instead an indication of the possibilities when using WordPress. You can do pretty much everything you can do in Blogger using a WordPress.org installation and a whole lot more beyond that. If you care about your business you will make the switch.

Wordpress gets my vote too. WP does have quality and features. Blogger is an unchartered area with many accounts abusing the right of free blog hosting. Imagine that i do say good things for WP even they disabled my account when i tried to use the service for SEO purposes only

Wordpress.com is free hosting for (a very limited range of) Wordpress blogs, for hobby bloggers only: absolutely nothing monetized is allowed there at all, and they're ruthless at removing on site anything they think may have commercial intentions or is being used to generate traffic to other sites. So it take only one competitor to "flag" a blog there, once, and it's "Goodnight, Charlie". :p

Sorry - replied at the same time as Istvan, above, and had not seen his post.

Hmm ... please excuse the observation that it seems not to be part of your Buddha-nature to read the terms of service.

Seriously, it's a very good habit to cultivate: always read carefully the terms of service before posting anything on or submitting anything to any site you don't own yourself.

Self-hosted Wordpress (which I think is what you might want to be using?) is made with software uploaded from wordpress.org.

If money's an issue, there are places where you can host it free. Byethost.com is a well-established, professional host where many internet marketers use the free hosting for their Wordpress blogs. It doesn't have "C-Panel".

If you use a host with C-Panel, you can normally install Wordpress in one single click, without going to wordpress.org to get the software. I've seen "000webhost" recommended here, for this purpose, though I haven't used it myself and can't vouch for it.

You will need to buy a domain-name, though. (Prices from $1 - it doesn't break the bank).

Moving from Blogger to wordpress.com may be a little "out of the frying pan and into the fire"!

The terms of service and their enforcement. Anything that might be considered "internet marketing" of any kind is excluded. They're also more consistent at enforcing that than Blogger is. Blogger is notoriously inconsistent and idiosyncratic in approach, and the terms of service require more "interpretation", too. (Sometimes "using a blogspot blog to generate traffic for another site" includes any affiliate links. In other cases it seems not to.) At wordpress.com it's pretty much black and white.

wp.COM is like blogger (in many regards): a platform maintained by them where you can create a free blog on a subdomain: whatever.wordpress.com - in other words, you do NOT own the site.

wp.ORG is the place where you downloaded the free CMS script to be installed on your own domain/hosting.

You mean install that zip file in from wordpress.org? How do I do that!? I need a guide, please!

Firstly, the blog i made in wordpress.com, should I delete it or should I just let it stay there?

Lastly, is that zip file for an add on so that I can manage my wordpress.com easier, if it isn't what is it?

Blogger does have its uses. I've run across a technique for physical products that uses blogger. Because blogger is owned by google, it "likes" it, and with the blog name being part of the URL, it does well in SEO. BUT, you have to know what you're doing.

WP.com is worthless for monetization as pointed out above, so from an IM point of view, don't bother with it. If you just want to talk about your hobby, or post about last night's party, they're great.

I have a number of WP blogs installed on my site, and one of the things I like about them is their versatility due to plugins. (If you don't know, plugins are a sub-program that add to the functionality of the WP blog)

If you're interested in autoblogging, I like Extreme Niche Empires' techniques, and the course is well thought out and pretty easy to follow. Sean Donahoe is on the WF and may comment on it if you want to know more. This thread has more info =>http://www.warriorforum.com/internet...e-empires.html

I apologize in advance to anyone thinking I'm trying to hijack this thread, I'm NOT. I just thought that while we were on the topic of blogging, I'd mention a related product I have purchased that I like. (No affiliate link anywhere in sight. LOL) Good products get raving fans.

I hope my insights have been helpful, good luck with your blogs!

I thought sites like blogger and wordpress can be used for Internet marketing. Now I know that wordpress are strict and they will ban you for Internet marketing. Blogger can be used to sell your products for all I know but about affiliate links, I am not too sure since I am not to sure whether generating traffic for other site means no affiliate. Wow, this leads me to wonder is there any other blog or free domains to choose from to do my internet marketing? Just listing out my options, thanks!

Free hosting with built-in software (not suitable for Wordpress blogs): Weebly, Yola, Blinkweb (there may be others, too - these are the well-known, well-established, "safe" ones).

Free hosting for whatever you want (including Wordpress blogs): Byethost (very well-established, professional, recommended, but no C-Panel), 000webhost (there'll definitely be many others, too, but read their terms of service very carefully before trying them, these are collectively certainly not as "safe" or reliable as places like Weebly, mentioned above).

You can still get free domains from .tk, I think. Whether you'd want to use one is another matter. You can buy a perfectly good .info domain-name for $1 from GoDaddy, and I recommend that, if cost's an issue. It's much more professional-looking (and maybe easier to rank) than a ".tk" one.

People, who were serious about setting up their web presence were installing scripts (including WordPress) even before cPanel has been invented...

Except the one-click gizmos, which are never as safe and controllable as the manual install - the process is always the same:
      - download the wordpress package from wp.org
      - unzip it on your machine
      - create the database from your site's administration interface (cPanel or not, there is ALWAYS such an option to create a new database)
      - write down the database name, user, pw, location (usually: localhost)
      - edit the wp-config.php file with the data above
      - upload the content of the WP package via FTP to your host (not the /wordpress/ folder, just what's in it)
      - run the installation

There are tons of detailed instructions how to do it; there are zillions of free videos on YT and all around the web.
Do your homework: search, read, watch, learn. Then do it.

Nobody was born knowing all that stuff - we all went through the learning process. So should you, if you are taking seriously your IM "adventure".
(With my very first MySQL database driven script installation I was up whole night because I forgot to add privileges to the database user and for many hours I couldn't figure out why it didn't work )

        Greetings Mr. Istvan .

I have already done the first 2 steps mentioned by you but was sceptical doing the rest of steps hence did not go ahead yet. A friend told me to wait for 2-3 days and he is trying to do something which he hasn't succeeded in yet . If he doesn't succeed in doing it, I will try to follow the steps you outlined here whatever be the end result :|.

I Don't understand anything from videos on YT as I have a hard time understanding the accent . Yes Reading is what I am always hooked to, but that does not always help unless you have a mentor. This is for people like me, everyone is wired differently .

hehehehe I can imagine the horror when some silly mistakes takes a bomb of time in rectification process. Your experience was indeed Funny . Thanks for sharing it here, May be the same mistake might teach me the basics of MySql and .Php.

Blogger is easy to use and Google loves it, of course, it owns it. Although it is free and easy it is not the way to go if you are serious about your business. You get what you pay for, as the saying goes. Same goes for wordpress.com. They are remotely hosted and you don't own the domain. You are just renting space. Your site could be here today and gone tomorrow, with the least provocation.

With wordpress.org your site is on your own domain. Your piece of real estate. With some free beautiful themes you can create something to be proud of.

There are a lot of reasons to host your blog on your own web site using WordPress. As a computer security professional, the simple fact that you have control over your content tends to jump out from the rest.

Hosting it on Blogger or WordPress.com could result in the blog being deleted by them and you may never discover the reason. Not a "knock" against them; it's just better to keep as much under your control as possible.

You can always host your site on Blogger with your own domain name and that gets rid of the problem of blogger shutting you down and taking your url with it. But the nice thing about Wordpress (the self hosted program) is that it is very customizable. At the very minimum, a $1 .info domain and some free or cheap web hosting + Wordpress is a big step in keeping your intellectual property safe.

really? that means you dont know how to design a template then. because blogger can have any look and feel you wish the template and css is editable and customizable

and to say worpress is seo friendly and blogger is not is a grand mistake, because google will always try to slip a blogspot site in front of a wordpress one

Blogger is much much better because you can use afilliate ads such as adsense and any other code you wish
Worpress cuts your hands and feet off.
The platform for wordpress is good but ten times more limited than worpress installed on your own site
Blogger no longer allows ftp hosting on your own domain thats the main disadvantage

but in wordpress free hosted you wont be able to insert java, iframes or any kind os ad networks and if you manage to they will ban you and steal your site from you if you make a mistake.. dont do it

blogger posts allow you to insert any code you want
i make about 150 bucks a ,month on adsense just from a few niche blogger blogs

Also it is great for making 5 page sites and use the first and only blog post as first landing page..
blogger being property og google inc.. lets any blogs you make go straight into the google directory and get found

i sell thai amulets on one of my websie online stores, but for each major kind of amulet that has many monthly world searches, i make a blog with blogspot using that keyword search as the blog name
for example there is an amulet called Kumarn Tong
i sell Kumarn Tong amulets on my store, but in fact, my kumarntong.blogspot dot com 3 page site with one blog post sayiing 'kuman tong amulets anbd a few more words' and then the store script inserted, sells me about 4 amulets a month

i have many blogspot blogs which bgenerate and catch customers for me
i use ecwid online store, which differs from other software because instead of installing a e-commerce software on my server, i do it all on ecwid server and i have acode snippet which is my store front display. I can take that snippet of code as a widget and insert it into facebook, myspace and blogspot or anywhere i wish
this means i have about 20 stores but dont have to log into 20 different websites to check my sales, and dont have to spliut the stock between each store.. its all the same interface
blogger allows me to insert the script. wordpress does not

you can see my ecwid online store within facebook on facebook.com/amuletstore
that is actually my store on my true website..
Anyone need real marketing tips abut niche bloggin feel welcome to add me on facebook to your friends list or talk with me here.. facebook is where i hang out mostly..

i also sell my own authored emagazines about Thai occultism called Buddha magic, and between the amulets and the books makes me about 3000# US a month without even having to blog anymore

I do blog though and i administrate quite a few large niche communities such as my website about thai temple tattoos sak-yant.com - that is my largest site with over a million visitors and generates about 200 dollars a month in adsense and about a thousand a month in ebook sales, plus about 1000 a year in donations

Wordpress allows you to easily and almost painfully optimize your site for SEO with the variety of readily available and free plugins. Also, there are plugins which quickly turn a Wordpress page or blog into a front-end for an Amazon (affiliate) store, a squeeze page, you name it. There's a reason why Travis Sago, of "bum marketing" fame, refers to Blogger as "ghetto hosting."

i find blogger to be better for autobloging - easier to configure fo UAW, but thats the only advantage.

wordpress lets you configure almost everything u csn think of and whats more important you do not depend on big G - u host it yourself.

in my early days i have had few blogs deleted by G for no reason, it would have never happened with a wordpress site

I would stick with wordpress as the community for it is so rich...there are tons of tutorials for it and its plugins...so you can get a really good network of blogs or web sites based on the platform.

Blogger sounds as if it might be beneath you as you sound a bit experienced with dealing the basics of wordpress.

Just keep tinkering and you will see the power of wordplress and the community support thats behind it.

It was the first place I ever had a site. I still have it.

I use it; I like it; I recommend it. I think Weebly is a really underrated host.

Later, when you can afford to, it's worth getting the paid upgrade, which removes from your site the "Weebly" button.

(Call me a skepchick, but it often amuses me a little that the people recommending Blogger in these threads don't have their Blogger sites in their sig-files to send traffic there, because they know perfectly well that if they do that, Blogger will notice it and remove their sites, as has happened here so many times before, when people have started a thread asking something about Blogger, and then before the first page is completed they're reporting back that they had their site deleted! ).

I promise I don't mean this even nearly as impolitely as it's going to sound, but if you interpret that as the "bottom line", then you have almost everything to learn about SEO.

First, those are the page ranks of the home pages of those sites, not the page ranks of your pages there.

Secondly, it's academic anyway, since neither wordpress.com nor blogger.com can safely be used by internet marketers for all the reasons discussed and explained in so much detail in this thread and the various other threads linked to above.

Thirdly, the significance and value of page-ranks has in any case fallen so much, recently (you can see this for yourself from how common it is for lower-PR pages to outrank higher-PR pages on Google searches, and from a lot of other things, too) that they're not really even worth talking about in the first place.

I'm not trying to "have a go at you", and am correcting this grotesquely misguided interpretation of what's the "bottom line" only because this is type of thread that many beginning marketers will read, and it would certainly be sad indeed for any of them to take any notice of your observation above; sorry.

A blog is a type of website.

Opinions differ (mostly according to what sort of products/services people are selling when they offer theirs).

There's a popular opinion that "Google loves blogs" but to some extent it's missing the point: what Google really "loves" is "regularly updated sites". And blogs are websites of the type that are designed to be regularly updated. So, yes, in that sense, blogs may have an advantage just because of the uses to which people put them.

But really, there's no difference these days between a "blog" and a "non-blog-website". One can update a "non-blog-website" just as often as a "blog" and Google will "love" it. Equally, one can create a static site with blogging software and not update it at all.

Wordpress, for example, is really a "content management system" rather than "blogging software", but such are the perceptions of the IM community that (excluding people who think about stuff like "Blogger"), "a blog" is quite widely taken to mean "a Wordpress site". And the availability of plug-ins/add-ons such as the "All in one SEO" gadget does mean that many marketers are (entirely reasonably) using Wordpress for sites they want to rank well, and this also contributes to the overall impression that "blogs rank well".

Like so many other things in internet marketing, what it really signifies depends on exactly what one means by the words.

If the questions is Blogger vs. Wordpress.com then it really doesn't matter. Since both are hosted for you, and you don't own the website. In general that is a downside. But if you are just starting out, or have a hobby blog then Blogger is fine. You can always import your blogger posts to Wordpress later.

I like on Wordpress.com how they will promote posts on the homepage.

The best situation is to own your own domain name. In that case Wordpress is the best solution. Use Fantastico installer that comes with the hosting account.

Blogger has introduced easy-to-customize templates with mobile versions and also Google Web Fonts. You can include third-party tracker scripts or scripts of your choice. There is visual confirmation, spam filtering and also moderation options but then there is no editing of comments which have been posted. There are no fees. You can use the Template Designer to edit the layout, fonts, and colors of your blog without knowing the languages. Blogger never display ads on your blog. Whereas word press requires you to pay yearly for an upgrade and also cost of the domain name. You can't upload your own theme.Google text ads may occasionally be displayed. Java scripts are not allowed.

You can use your own domain on blogger.

I find it quite funny that google provides anything for blogspot that you
want, and yet people still insist on wordpress for this very reason.

Peruse this forum. It should be a wordpress help forum. So many people
coming here for help with wordpress.....and yet, people still swear by it.
      How do I...I can't....It won't.....

No such nonsense is needed with blogspot. You can put adsense anywhere
with just a mouse click. No need for any SEO plug in. Blogpsot is SEO'd,
google style, right out of the box.

If you have your own custom domain, you can use it just fine on blogspot.
If you make backups, as you should with wordpress anyway, then you
have everything you need if google shuts you down. But then, if you are
worried about google shutting you down, what does that say about what
you are doing? You don't think google will not de-index a wordpress blog?
Even your host could shut you down.

Wordpress is a pretty lousy CMS to begin with. Again, just look at how
many people can't do squat and come here begging for help.

There is so many more that are so much better and don't need a friggin'
plug in for this or that, or are a bear to modify the code to get it work
      the way you want.
