Hi everyone, riddle me this:

Let's say my keyword is "skateboards" and I buy "1skateboards.com" and "skateboards1.com" and launch them at the same time with the same content on them (ignoring that they would be hit for plagiarism)-which would rank higher in the search for the keyword "skateboards" ?
#search engine optimization #domain #higher #rank #stronger
  • skateboards1.com I guess, haha. Acutally, I don't think the location of the "1" is such an important factor to affect the ranking. You have your keyword in the domain, and you did a good job. The next step should be focus on the on-page seo and building high quality backlinks.

    • Bzzz. Reading comprehension score = 0

I said they have identical content.

  • www.warehouseskateboards.com would rank higher...

Was build in 2004, has thousands of backlinks. LOL.
  • In terms of the url, I don't think it would make a difference. It's good to have your keywords in the domain, but I think things like the on and off-page SEO are weighed far greater by the search engines.

  • though skateboards1.com slightly has an edge i prefer 1skateboards.com has it looks good for readability and same seo benefits and brandable as well..

    Thank you

  • If you are marketing to young teenage boys I would build a site with the domain skateboards5318008.com. This way you get their two biggest obsessions in one domain.

(5318008 upside down in a calculator spells boobies.)

  • There probably wouldn't be any difference to them.
  • i think skateboards would be more well rank then the other one .
  • i dont think either would matter...u just need to do some good SEO work..
  • Well as far as your url contain your main keyword, you are in safe hands.. so i guess both of the domain names are good..

I can hardly believe the misinformation in this thread.

      People are just "guessing".

It's actually important, if adding letters/numbers/a word to the keyword, to put that after the keyword in the domain-name, not before.

If you're trying to rank for "skateboards", then for SEO purposes "skateboardsxyz" is better than "xyzskateboard".

There's so much misinformation about these subjects here: people just repeat what others have told them in other forum threads without ever checking with any authoritative source at all.

Any standard textbook of SEO, Google's blog, Matt Cutts' blog, forum posts from resident experts like Gene Pimentel (what he doesn't know about domain-names isn't worth knowing) and so on are all freely available ... but no: people prefer to repeat misinformation and give misguided advice instead.
