Always aim to provide value to the USER first and foremost - don't be sucked into satisfying a search engine.

    Don't

Look for shortcuts that detract from overall UX. Longevity is of key importance in SEO.

      Agree 100%

The aim of the search engines is always to match people up with relevant, high quality content. One of the few factors that never changes.

I would also like to add some major points in concern of on page optimization.

    1. Make your entire website table less in div format.
    2. Create SEO standard files like ROR, & Robot.TXT.
    3. Concentrate on footer structure to make it search engine friendly.
    4. Don't Create Deep links with sub folder as it will create complication to Search Engine Crawlers.

I learned that you can convert more visitors with a simpler home page lay out. And make sure you have a site map because big search engines dig those.

Personally I never use sitemaps as they can mask other issues with your link structure, i.e. a page that is not properly linked will still be indexed from the sitemap when you really want to point anchors at it from elsewhere.... not such an issue with a CMS that ensures everything is linked... but I never use sitemaps anymore.

Rest of the stuff I agree with though :p

I wouldn't worry too much about dofollow vs nofollow. Both are required.

I also don't think aggressive SEO on a new domain is a bad thing at all.

Have quality contents on your site with some proper on-page SEO 1st, then build authority one way back-links slowly, mix them up with no-follow and do-follow + high PR & low Pr to look everything natural in the eyes of Google in order to get high rankings.

I'll just add a little because I see a lot of people miss that:

DO: concentrate on having quality unique content and getting organic traffic and DO NOT: worry about monetization and having ads on your site when you start(just built) it .

Work on giving your visitors great, helpful content and build traffic and trust for your site.
Then, once you have all that on your site - it will be an instant sale once you monetize it.

It will help your ranking. It will help you concentrate on what's important for your visitors.

Aggressive SEO on a new Domain is a big no no I know a friend who did that and it took him almost 5 months to get back on track. Make it progressive as you start with a new site and everything will go into place.

    DO:
Try and look at your website as if you were a random visitor and optimize the content and layout accordingly. Don't forget that you know your website inside out and you know what is located where. Your visitors might not see it the same way you do and therefore your whole strategy of conversion might be hardly relevant. Follow your users behavior patterns on Google Analytics to understand how many of them leave and what those who stay do on your website. Never stop testing and always add new original content. The more quality content you have, the more keywords will be covered even when you are not targeting them specifically. You will be surprised how many word combinations can bring you traffic.

    DON'T:
Don't give up. The first several months will rarely bring any significant results, but you should keep working. If you stick to common sense in the tactics you have chosen, soon enough you will be able to achieve a lot.
