My first $50+ Day - Amazon.com profits on one site!

I've seen a lot of similar posts when people hit a certain milestone for the first time. Well, yesterday was my first day to earn over $50 from my sites. On top of that, I blew well past the $50 mark and actually earned over $50 from just one website.

I bought a website at the end of last month that was making $120 a month on Amazon with the intention that I would boost it up in Google and maybe make a few changes that would hopefully get it up to about $200/ month (my projected goal - I'd never bought a site before so was a little uncertain).

I've got it to #1 for it's primary keyword in Google and still rising for others.

Over the weekend, I put a fair amount of time into updating the front page of the site to make it a bit more user friendly and give it a cleaner look.

I also added a plugin that sends international traffic to the correct Amazon site, and I did make 7 Canadian Dollars yesterday, but that's not included in the other total.

I've had the site for less than a month so far and it's already cleared the $200 mark.

It's been gradually ramping up through the month as I have made changes to the site and gotten more traffic from Google. I can't wait to see what a full month with those changes already in place will look like. Not to mention that I have more keywords to target and other things to increase CTR to Amazon.

Obviously just one day at that level isn't the same as hitting it consistently. But you've gotta hit it once before you can hit it again!

I'm excited as that's one more step closer to my goal of doing this fulltime.

For any newbies out there, I made my first affiliate website just before the last new year (Dec. 28, 2010 I think?). I have had a ton of things going on this year (moved, started a new job, got married, remodeling, etc) to distract me from working on my sites. Only recently have I truly started pushing harder to get a more consistent income from them so I can move into doing this full time.

So I'm still fairly new at this, but I've learned a TON of information from this website and from digging around on other sites. But maybe even more importantly, I've put some of it into action here and there along the way and seen what worked for me. I will be continuing to ramp up those aspects that work for me and fit my style.

Anyway, hope that's encouraging to someone. Regardless, I'm excited about it and needed to share it with someone!

Congrats man! I can tell you that consistency is definitely the key to ramping up your earnings. Once you find the right system that works for you, it's only a matter of putting that system to work and working on it every chance you get.

    Keep it up!

Awesome. I love Amazon niche sites. If you have the time, spend the next month or so putting together as many as you can. They really do start to add up if they're successful. And most are, if you do proper keyword research & SEO.

Well done, try and replicate that success with more sites. Then maybe we'll see a thread from you about your first $500 day

Thanks! I'm definitely finding that out. I've found a couple of things that are working for me and now I'm (consistently) putting in the time to ramp them up and it is paying off.

I've got one other one that needs some work but is already up and just needs to be ranked. And I actually put up another one this weekend. It's very basic right now needs some more content but after that it should be good and again just need rankings/traffic.

Once those two are ranked, I don't see any reason my income from Amazon shouldn't be triple what it is.

The only problem is that all of those three are focused on electronics so I'm not benefiting by the 7% commission I should be qualified for.

I need to build a few sites in a completely different niche so I can take advantage of the higher commissions.

Thanks! It's taken me less than a year to get this far (and I'm hoping to get much farther before the year ends). Maybe that $500 day will be within the next year for me? Never know!

      Thanks

I have had spikes of nearly 1,000 visitors per day (did good on those days but not nearly as good as yesterday). But yesterday was around 550 unique visitors to that site.

          Thanks!

As far as content that gets notable traffic, there's the main page and 10 product reviews. Those 10 reviews are promoted from the front page and over the weekend I set up a "Top 10" chart to make it a lot cleaner/more organized/more user friendly. There are a handful of other reviews that aren't promoted from the main page. And then several other pages of just informational content.

Total there's about 35 or so pages of content.

That's fantastic! Gives me some hope - my biggest day so far has been $11, but I haven't been promoting my sites as much as I should have until just this last week. I'm hoping to consistently do $50/day by Christmas.

Glad I could spread some hope around. I know it's made me feel more hopeful about when I'll be able to reach my goals.

Good luck on your goal of $50/day by Christmas. One thing that has helped me is that I sat down at the beginning of this month and made goals for each month for the rest of the year. The goal for September is based on me reaching the goal for August. October's goal is based on Septembers goal, and so on.

I set ambitious goals (At least I think so) but goals that I think are possible.

I think that helps because it makes you think through what it will really take to reach those goals. Looking at my end of year goals and looking at where I'm at now, it can be hard to understand exactly what needs to happen to get me there. But if I look at the page where I have all of the goals written down progressively, that lays out the path I need to follow a lot more clearly and keeps me motivated to keep moving forward aggressively.

I definitely agree but would like to add that some people have goals that are "realistic" in the since that they are so conservative that you will definitely reach them. Those people are successful simply in the sense that they reach their goals, but you also have to be aggressive enough with the goals that reaching them actually moves you forward. It's a balance.

Great! Glad to be a bit of inspiration.

Personally I feel like online sales is a lot less frustrating than phone sales or door to door sales or even retail sales (at least if you're commission based). Sure it takes work, but you don't get doors slammed in your face or phones hung up on you. Someone may simply click to another website and it does you no real harm (assuming it is search engine traffic and not paid traffic).

But like any other kind of business, there will be roadblocks and bumps but if you can keep pushing through and learning as you go then you can continue to build on your successes and minimize the failures.

just trying to work out if its worth installing

    Thanks

Thanks - if you read the last bit of the first post it explains that I've been learning SEO/IM for less than a year and I've had the site itself for less than a month.

Thanks for the kind words! I've toyed with the idea of flipping sites but in most cases (especially if I make the site more successful...) I prefer the idea of buying sites that are not performing to their optimum level and ramping them up. I don't foresee doing another one of those this year though I've got a few of my own sites I'd like to work on. I am going to keep an eye out for any especially tempting deals though...

The plugin I started using is EazyAzon - it is a paid plugin but I expect it to pay for itself pretty quickly.

Before I decided to use it I sat down and looked at my international traffic to see if I thought it was going to be worth it to set up.

You have to sign up on each one, but it's really easy to do and that part hardly takes any time. The more time consuming part for you to look at is going back and changing all of the links you currently have to the short code that allows it to redirect based on IP.

That takes a bit of time if you have a lot of pages with a lot of links but once you've got it set up it's done. And the links are REALLY easy to do too (even easier than making a new link yourself) it just takes time to redo the ones that are already there. In my case I needed to rework some of the links anyway, but so that was time I would have had to spend working on the site anyway.

If you see the value in it though, don't let that scare you off. It's a one time fee and one time setup. Once it is setup, if you have much international traffic and your site is converting buyers it will pay for itself over time.

Plus on any new sites you set up it will actually save you time in building your affiliate links.

Thanks! I'm glad to help a bit. Unfortunately, I've never touched Amazon's iframe code, so I'm not sure what it looks like/how it works. If I had to guess, I would say no or at least not yet. I think the plugin was only released a few months ago but has a fair amount of updates planned.

Thanks! Yesterday actually came really close to the $100 mark, though the sales of products I am actually promoting dropped quite a bit yesterday for some reason - someone also bought a different product that was several hundred dollars so that gave me a nice boost (especially since hitting the 7% commission bracket).

Definitely consider that a fluke, but it's exciting nonetheless.
