Microsoft has beat out Google to become the default search provider on all phones on the Verizon Wireless network.

Steve Ballmer made the announcement to a packed hall as part of his keynote address at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Starting in the first half of 2009, Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500) will power all search on Verizon Wireless devices and serve up the advertising.

Last November, it was widely reported that Microsoft was offering guaranteed payments to the carrier of approximately $550 million to $650 million over five years.

======================

I've found that being logged into MSN messenger while using sharethis or socialmarker is actually getting me ranked higher in MSN for my local SEO niche.

before using these in combination I wasn't anywhere to be found in MSN

am testing being logged into AIM while using sharethis/socialmarker to see if tactic works for AOL search.

I'm sure this post will bring a flurry of "if it's not Google it's not worth my time" replies, but my clients actually use AOL email as a business email acct.
They do use aol search (astonishing as it sounds to us in IM)

I can see from my stats that the tactic is driving a bit of traffic so I posted this here.

Traffic is traffic David and I for one don't care if it come from AOL or MSN and not Google. In fact I would be happy to share it out amongst them a bit more as I am a firm believer in not putting all your eggs in 1 basket.

This is an interesting post, please keep us updated on how your testing goes.

sure... I had to look into the social bookmarking thing

If you look closely (and many may not due to how time consuming it can be)

Socialmarker has only comma deliminated (not sure if that's the correct term) keywords

      well... aol will ingore commas

aol requires underscore to connect keywords into phrases
      technorati requires commmas
MSN refuses to accept all sorts of characters

from my testing this really makes a difference

I've been using clipmate to store what I call "ammo"

      ie one 200 character description
      one 350 characters description
one set of keywords with spaces only
      one set with commas
      one set with quotation marks
      and so on

hmm, I could make a report and sell that info couldn't I?

actually I'm gathering all my info and putting it into a report BUT
