What other strategies can I use?

I have a website, ulcseminary .org that has been online for about 7 years. I used to be in the top four and got complacent. I slipped down to #7, then #8 and was just dropping to #9 for 'universal life church', when I realized I needed to get off my butt and do something.

According to google, I have 525k+ links, which is cool, but I'm still at #7 for my choice phrase.

I've got multiple blogs, both wordpress and blogger.
I have an article directory and post to other directories.
I have 3 bookmarking sites and post to others as well.
I bought a bunch of .edu sites and have been posting on them. Google has recognized at least 13 of them.
I have 2 .gov links
I have several smaller sites which have links back to my main site.
I post in forums and on blogs
I have a FB fan page (with about a thousand fans) that I update regularly
I tweet regularly and ping.fm to a bunch of other sites.
I ping my new posts.
I have done about 20 personal videos that are posted on YT, DailyMotion, and Vimeo, as well as posting them on my site.
I'm using linkclaw to make custom RSS feeds and I've submitted it and several of my other blogs to RSS and blog directories.

I interlink, do regular mailings to my pretty large mailing list, and have updated my site with H1 tags and different descriptions/titles on most every page.

In the last 8 or 9 months, I've jumped from #8 allllll the way up to a fairly consistent #7.

There are only 3 other sites that in the running, but one site seems to take up several of the top spots.

What else can I do to move? I'm getting very frustrated.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Just took a look at your site and keyword, you definately can do this, you just need links from pages with actual page rank, then with your domain age and already existing link profile I can almost guarantee you will take out the #1 spot, you're doing quite well for holding position #7 with those 2nd tier links, throw some real juice at your keyword and you will see the movement almost instantly in your case.

When you say 'second tier links', do you mean those whose homepage ranks well, but the interior ones don't?

I have keyword links on high-ranking homepage sites, like the .edu ones and some social networking sites, but not on the front page.

I will look at the hubpages.com too. I don't think I've posted there yet.

      Thank you.

You can subscribe to BuildMyRank, or buy high PR homepage links to get that extra push to get you to #1.

I do a lot of bookmarking with my target keyword in the title and I have a lot of forum posts (thousands) with signature links. I will check out hubpages though, in case I'm not there. Thank you.

Question again: When you say I need more links from high PR sites, do links from pages where the top page has good rank, but the internal ones don't, still count?

I got those .edu sites where the top page has a high PR ranking, but the blogs themselves don't. I just want to clarify what 'second tier' links mean.

      Thanks.

Many believe of "Imaginary value" of links or what we called the "link juice" which means transferring of the value of the links. It means that the value of a page having a good PR (homepage in most cases) will flow to the sub-pages of a website which give more value to them.

Anyway, I think the effects of what you have done to your site are still not taking place. As I observe, you have done the right thing and you just have to wait a certain time for them to take place. CHEERS!

According to my observation, all methods that you are using are all off page. Have you done on page optimization?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I supposed that you have forgotten on page and have focused too much on doing something outside your site. If my observation is correct, then it's a good time for you to start on page.

You have a good site and I think it's not that hard to bring it to the top position.

As far as on-page, I've gone through every page of my site, which has over 100 built-out pages, made unique titles and descriptions on them, have varying side-bars with links to the most popular pages on the top and drop-downs of the rest of the pages on the site.

I've got alt tags and links on the pictures, have links to internal pages throughout each page and on the internal pages back to the front page, and have H1 titles on every page.

The content is all original, as I love to write (and have published multiple books). I have a regularly-updating wordpress blog on the site, with original content, as well as a forum that gets some activity. People copy my content fairly often and I'm using tynt to keep track of it and hopefully get some links out of it.

I have different youtube videos of myself on the site, posted on various pages and links to both my fan page and twitter. I also have a regularly-updating twitter feed on the front page of the site, as well as a few internal pages.

So I don't know what other on-page seo I can do.

Okay, that's good. Another thing is, have you checked your backlinks where it came from? Because according to Google webmaster guidelines, "links from bad neighborhoods will have bad effects in your ranking" (Note: don't get me wrong, I just want to help you in this matter.)

A lot of my links are ones from my own sites (wordpress, blogger, and my other sites that I've been building up, including bookmarking and my article directory), as well as forums I've posted on, some .edu sites, a bunch of article directories and some others from tips I've gotten on this site.

From my Google tools, I don't show any links from any bad neighborhood sites, at least none that I've seen.

I'm going through my site again right now and have found a few alt tags that I've missed and a few other things, so maybe that will help. I could've sworn I'd gotten all of those, but I guess I missed some.

I think you should check the uniqueness of your articles. If they are stolen then ask the webmasters to remove those contents. If they do not remove those contents then complain to the hosting authority where the articles are hosted to remove those pages. By the way, you may do some guest blog posting for getting powerful backlinks.

What's scribd? I have looked at my competitor's links and a lot of them come from their own other sites. They bought about 250 domains and have sites on a bunch of them.

I have about 20 videos and have dug them and submitted them with bookmarking demon, as well as bookmarking my blogs and posts.

      Thanks for the help.
