  • Nice - thanks!

Somewhere I have a text file of different searchs w/modifiers to find various blogs, etc. that don't use a no-follow tag, aren't moderated, etc.

    Unfortunately, they're becoming quite rare!

Comment Kahuna does a pretty good job of finding them as well.

Good tip on keywords for finding .edu, I find forums to be the best place to put signature backlinks, just make sure you give contributions to those forums.

Similar keywords hint can also be used to find social bookmarking sites.

Exactly Krishanda... make sure to be careful with posing to these forums/blogs/cms's... if you provide quality info, you are golden.

It's true, I've been in a place where people spamming my blogs so I won't do the same.

I only posted on related niche - things that I really know about.

For a case study, some well known universities in my country build forums and provide blogs for their students.
Apparently they're all provide dofollow links.
You can put any links there but not adult links because the users tend to build blogs and threads just about anything - not just education related stuff.

It's a shame really, the admin also don't really manage them too well, some blogs were spammed with lots of adults links.

I find Jared Alberghini's posts and threads illuminating and his sites very resourceful as well.

Usually, I approach most most internet marketing with a grain of salt, but Jared's sites are loaded with powerful stuff. Just a couple of days ago, I started reading his posts, visiting his sites and they very interesting.

I like his approach to marketing.

There is no remuneration for me as a result of this post. I am just complimenting a good business.

I know that in this mad rush to make a buck and so fast too, sometimes the resources that we need to succeed are just right there in front of us, but the lure of distant promises by other peddlers, often looks more appetizing than necessary. So when I checked his blog: AffiliateNicheMonster.com I couldn't stop wondering how many of us, myself included really take time to study available opportunities in this forum.

There so many good ones. Jared's AffiliateNicheMonster.com is certainly one of them and deserve more than a second look.

Thanks for the tip. Now to just find one in my niche. Also, don't overlook listservs hosted by .edu servers. I'm on a couple and use them often (with my links in my email sig.). They work equally as well and get crawled by the SEs.

FYI: edu / gov links have the same weight as normal links.

      Hey Loz,

Very true, .edu /.gov domains do not have any more weight than a .com, .net, etc.

The reason .edu domains are perceived to give more weight is because typically they have a higher page rank themselves usually achieved through longevity and plenty of backlinks.

I never said that .edu backlinks weigh more, I just shared a way to get them (or any other .extention for that matter)

Totally agree with you, .edu and .gov don't mean they have more weight than any other links, as matt cutts said

"Isn't there some sort of boost? Isn't a link better if it comes from a .edu?" The short answer is: no, it is not. It is just .edu links tend to have higher PageRank, because more people link to .edu's or .gov's.
You can have a useless .edu link just like you can have a great .com link.

here's a link that might help some ppl in regards to how to find more edu or gov links
