Why Am I Being Outranked?

I have purchased a new domain which is 1 year old and has the exact match for a keyword. I only have 19 links pointing to the site but I am steadily increasing this.

However I am being outranked by a domain which is not exact match and is just under 6 months old and has only 1 link from a forum profile. The same sort of thing is happening with another domain but not as drastic.

I would really appreciate if someone shed some light on what i'm doing wrong.

I'm sure you'll get a better response if you're willing to share more details (like the actual domains) even via PM.

    A couple of points:

-Not all links are worth the same amount. That forum profile could have 10,000 scrapebox auto approve blog comments backing it up.

-You might not be seeing all the links which are pointed toward either site. How are you checking this?

-19 links is light, even in a non-competitive space

Could you provide the domain you have to be able to look at it? I could give some vague feedback, but I'm sure you'd want something more concrete.

Is your page optimized for the keyword, h1, h2,h3 tags? Image alt?

    Title also include your Keyword?

Also, 19 links is nothing, they could also have links which are not visible to you but are to google.

    Thanks for the quick responses.

Sorry I forgot to mention the domian it's irenewbraceletreviews.com the competitors is irenewbraceletsreview.com

I know 19 links is nothing but I am currently undergoing a link building campaign. I was just confused to see the site outranking me and wanted to know if there is something i'm doing wrong.
I used yahoo site explorer to check how many backlinks were pointing to the domain.

How about spending some time for your Onpage SEO??

Just took a glance of 2 sites and something came to my mind:

    1) Use a 'Recent posts','tag cloud' and 'category' widget on sidebar. It helps strengthen internal linking..
    2) Personally I prefer the twenty ten theme itself than your current theme. It is more seo optimized out of box. However its not a big deal.
    3) If possible use these in your robots file:
    CONTENT="NOODP" and
    CONTENT="NOYDIR"

    4) Build more backlinks in a controlled manner. Don't do 5k,10k blasts. Try to use high pr backlink packets from Angela and Paul.

    thats all for now..

there are a number of reasons why....does your competitor have more pages, more optimized content and also if you are using google to see the back links you are not seeing the whole truth as they do not report them all

Given that we're talking about so little in terms of competition.

Wouldn't the easiest thing be to simply build about 100 links and be done with it?

What type of links are you building? Are you using Onlywire or similar to auto bookmark your posts?

Yes I am currently building links I use actually rank and also do article submissions as well as directory submissions I then boost all of my backlinks using backlink booster. I will check out onlywire thanks SEOAffordable.
I realize that the main thing I need to do is build backlinks but I was just curious to why I was being outranked by the competitor and have discovered that apart from the links my on page seo was shoddy.
I have tried to improve my on site seo and will get back to building links.

Thanks for the help this is an awesome forum.

Because exact match domains aren't as important anymore as quality content, a low bounce rate and repeat visits. I have a site on page one that I've NEVER BUILT ONE BACKLINK TO and it's ranking above sites with thousands of links.

Why? The content is written by a genuine authority in the niche and it's 100% relevant across the entire site. Old habits die hard. There are thousands of people saying that backlinking and exact match domains are still working.

They used to work damn well, but that's changed since Panda. Now, it's authoritative content, low bounce rates and "social votes" (google +1 votes, Facebook links and tweets) that matter. Unfortunately there are too many well meaning yet ignorant SEOs who haven't learned this and are still going on about what used to work.

Check the sites ranking above you if you don't believe me. You'll see what I mean.

If you PM me I will do a 50-70 page report on your site focusing on one keyword you are trying to rank for. Yes for free

I will compare your site to the top ten competitors so you can see what they are doing and what you need to be doing in order to get to the top three spots of Google.

pm me with site and keyword.

      hope that helps

This is so true. I was talking with my father the other day and he told me how upset he was because he noticed when he did searches for things that when the page came up it was not what he was looking for. I think Panda is going to reward sites that contain what you talked about.
