AdSense units

Hello,
I would like to ask how many adsense units could we have on a page?
I can see somewhere that it is 3 link units + 3 ads units + 2 search boxes.
but when reading "one click optimizer" and best placement published by google, I can see only puting 3 units.

by the way, what is "search boxes" and how to implement?
Which is the most working ad format and placement?
I have a site with 3 pages (just HTML) that give definitions for the trageted keywords like wikipedia..

So any suggestion?

Thank you.

  • If you've ever used Google Adsense, you would know 3 ad units is maximum. Then you can move onto link units, and search boxes, etc.
  • Hi,
Thank you for your response.. but still did not get it..what do you mean by "then move onto..."?
I have either to use Ad units OR link units OR search boxes?

  • Maximize ad space with multiple ad units - AdSense Help

I only use 2 ad units and a link unit on most sites. While you can place up to 3 ad units and 3 link units, I think that's a little overkill. I aim to provide a good user experience on all of my Adsense sites by utilzing top notch content that is targeted directly at the user. Combine that with good on-page SEO to trigger relevant ads and you won't have problems serving up ads that users WANT to see.

Sites that are blasted with Adsense ads just to maximize their use without the end user in mind isn't the way to go in my opinion. Focus on a good layout structure as well.
  • 2 has been working best for me as well. My CPC is also higher with only 2 ad blocks.

I like to have 3. If it seems too much for the site layout, you can always fit in image ad somewhere in sidebar

    • Less = more? More what?

The number of ad units has nothing to do with CPC. All
ads are open to an auction. Highest one wins.

If you don't have all 3 ad blocks, you are blocking advertisers.

      More advertisers = more money.

The CPC is a product of your site's quality and the traffic it
      gets.

Don't blame people for clicking on the lowest priced ad.

Obviously, if you get $50 for 5 clicks, and $100 for 30 clicks,
your average CPC goes down. But that's not the
CPC of individual ads, nor does it constitute a lowering of
      any ad's CPC.

It does not make the CPC of ANY ad on your site less!

And here's the real kicker for those that only have one ad
block. Google rewards the best adwords users with
lower CPC to get on top. That means, if you have
only one ad block, you are potentially blocking a
higher paying ad. High QS adwords users get first crack
at the top block. And they pay less!!!!

Don't you ever see just one ad on an ad block?
BINGO! That is the highest QS adwords user, and maybe
paid a lot less for that one ad than a lower QS who
      you just shut out!

Getting back to the question....you seriously need to read
what google writes. They don't publish a huge adsense help
guide so you can go to the WF and get a guided tour.

And while you're there, read the in-depth TOS guide as well.

  • I'd say test and try, if you have a high ctr on 2 out of 3 units, then better keep only 2 as it will help to insert all those high paying ads into the 2 rather than diversifying them to the 3rd which has low ctr.
