Get rid of Spam Backlinks

Hello Warriors!
I think if someone, maybe your competitor, wants to sink your website he can make some spam backlinks to your site. And how we can avoid and get rid of these spam backlinks? Is there any tool or technique for this?

I remember just recently i asked this question and my thread got deleted

I remember one of the posters wrote that someone did a study on that and found out that it is possible to cause a website to plummit under some backlinks.

I can't neither confirm nor deny that.

According to Google, the normal type of links spammers use won't hurt you. They know that if it were possible to use backlinks for harming competitors, some will do it.

What sites you link out to is much more important. I can see how someone could hurt you my spamming your sites with links to the obvious 'bad neighborhoods', but you shouldn't be allowing that kind of garbage on your site anyway.

About the only other way I can think of right now would be actually buying links in your name from known link farms. Most spammers aren't going to lay out the kind of money buying enough links to alter your serps would cost. Buying a handful probably won't do it.

This is my own speculation, as the only ones who could answer definitively (Google) aren't talking...

If there was a known link farm then the sites would just be deindexed.

If your website is new it may hurt you. It'll seem like you're the one doing it, but after a week you should be fine.

Google have already think in that direction and don't penalize sites for linking to bad neighbors. The only case where you can get penalize is when your entire links are from bad neighbors and spams.

If you concentrate on white hat seo and your competitors try to take you down with black hat seo it won't work against you because of the white hat seo application.

Its only Akismet that i know will ban your IP for spam blog comment and you can talk to them and appeal, after investigation you can get your site lifted from their spam folder if its justified.

Just to reconfirm, I think that there may be a communication breakdown here but wanted to clarify for any WF readers.

Google WILL and CAN hurt your rankings if you are LINKING to bad neighborhoods. That's something that they will do. Google doesn't want link farms linking to "viagra, gambling and other crap". Webmasters are directly responsible for what is being linked to from their own website.

Back to the topic at hand though, I wouldn't worry about this. The chances of this actually happening are slim to none. The worst that could happen is that your site gets thrown into a Google dance for some time, but then will come back stronger than ever.

Spend that time and energy that you've worried about this into making your website that much better and see what happens to your rankings.

Backlinks dont work against you, google is not stupid and knows that it cannot penalise because of this. If you suddenly have lots of links coming in you may experience movement up and down in the rankings but this is just what is known as the google dance, more often than not the rankings go back to normal and other times it wil inccrease. It is very unlikely you will experience any negative movement in rankings due to backlinks.

    Nino.

Google will not penalize your site LONG TERM for someone pointing low value links at your site.

If I ran a blast of 50k forum profile links to your moneysite, you better believe it will definitely dance (if it does not have serious domain age or high PR.)

With that being said, it will come back STRONGER after the dance is over. If someone wanted to hurt you SHORT TERM, they could... but LONG TERM they would actually be helping you.

Reverse seo (the technical name of what you guys are talking about) is a GREAT way to get sued for every penny you're worth. I'd never try it in a million years. Besides that fact there has never been any hard evidence I've seen published confirming that it will have any LONG TERM effects with Google. All your competitor would have to do is motion to Google through a simple application that they've been victim and Google can reset everything back. Then I'd think that Google will keep an eye out for those trying to continue to build bad links and heaven help you if Google ever figures that out lol.

So long story short: It's an unethical, DANGEROUS, illegal practice that is unproven to have any long-term effects and is worst of all a waste of time that you could have been using to elevate yourself rather than attack someone else.

      Bolded for emphasis.

What law prohibits backlinking somebody elses site?

What law prohibits one from spamming a site with pings in a DoS attack? I'd be wary that you could be charged as a hacker would be for a malicious attack. Might not, but even then they could still take civil action of course. At any rate I'd never attempt something with such a high risk profile.

I have a related concern - an adult classified site has linked to me, I've watched them for the past two weeks, their links always linger at 10% even though I have a steady stream of links are coming in. My site is starting to rank well so I want to do the right thing here.

Advice from you SEO experts please.

      Thanks

Links to your sites cant hurt you. Bad Neighborhoods linking to you just devalues the links. They dont harm or help you.

If you could effect a site by linking negatively to it you would see tons of "ANTI-SEO" companies popping up.

The only real answer that linking can harm you is as someone mentioned spending lots of money to buy links direct similar to what JC Penny did but you would need big time money to pull that off and you could get better results using it for positive linking on your own site.

not this discussion again....do some research even MC goes out and tells you that you can't get hurt by incoming only outbound and that you can never build too many links, now link velocity is another factor that you need to take into consideration.

It is definitely possible to downrank a site - especially when it is new. I found a nearly undiscovered niche with great potential and got 1 competitor (it is not about affiliate, it was in high paying niche where I wanted to sell the leads from the sites). This competitor was a BlueFart freak and since my site was straight going up (i assume the google rush at the beginning, never did backlinking at all to that site as it was not finished), he fired with spamlinks from shady comments onto my new site. Bang Boom Dead - P50. This is why a friend and me developed a plugin against those attacks.

Backlinks are not working against you, Google is not stupid and knows he can not punish for it. If you suddenly have a lot of links that can arise in the movement up and down in the standings, but that is what is known as the Google Dance, rankings usually return to normal and others inccrease Wil. It is highly unlikely that you feel a negative movement in the rankings due to backlinks.
