Hey guys,

I was doing keyword research and I checked the first page for this keyword

how to lose weight fast

And to my surprise, the site ranking on the first spot is only 2 months old  the domain was registered in july !

The keyword is getting 130k+ exact local searches per month ! ! ! and the copitition is so damn hard,

I know people with a 5 figures SEO budget and they didn't get to the first SPOT of competitive keywords this fast,

Can someone please give me a logical explanation of what's going on ?

Thanks you
Hamza

  • Hmm... I guess building links to a new site to fast won't do as much damage as some people suggest.

    8,000 plus backlinks (that shows)
    PR 6 - 5
    PR 5 - 18
    PR 4 - 70 plus
    PR 3 - 50 plus
    PR 2 - 40 plus

Might have also redirected a PR and/or aged domain with the htaccess file as well. But it looks like the backlinks.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • Yeah, that's the one, I checked too and it says 8000 links, considering that tools don't usually give an accurate number of backlinks only the site owner knows how much links the site actually have lol

May i know how do you sort those links based on PR ?
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
      • [1] reply
    • wow, 8000 back-link.. that is a lot . a lot.... for me, that take a year, or more... how do they do it, outsource??
  • You must be looking at something else. All the top 10 sites for that keyword are high PR, have some age and a ton of backlinks.

The number 1 site (if you check using scroogle) is momswhothink dot com.

That domain is almost 12 years old.
  • I've checked the links and most of them are trashy sites.
Like all of them are from blog networks
  • - lots of info on the front page
    - spammed the comments
    - lots of backlinks, fast

Initially it looks like great content to Google. It happens to a lot of sites that are over optimized. It won't last, unless they keep the content coming, get organic traffic and continue backlinking.

    • This.

Heck, I've seen people build entire businesses around this model. Target highly searched niche's / up and coming trends, heavily optimize their site for the keyword, and spam the crap out of it. By the time Google catches on they will have already moved onto something else.

This works best with "trending" niches though.

  • They are using a private high pr blog network for most of the links to that site. Unfortunately, the network is extremely limited and not open to the public at the moment, when it does open they only let a few people in and it runs $200/month.

Also looks like they used the Seo Ultimate Network and Build My Rank based on some of the domains I am seeing in the backlink profile.

Most of the backlinks I see so far are on index pages of that network, no doubt all the links are very fresh considering everything hasn't fell off the index pages of the backlink network sites.

Looks like JC Penney all over again, lol.

12K+ backlinks, most on index pages.

BTW, $200 would be dirt cheap for a network that large, If they keep you on the index page of all those domains.
      • [1] reply
    • What's the name of this network? I've only heard of Build My Rank, Linkvana and Backlink Solutions and none of them const this much...

Very impressive to be able to get to the top for that keyword though - even if it does not last that long.

By the way, that's not the only key phrase they are on the first page for according to SEM Rush: http://www.semrush.com/info/hereshow...weightfast.com.
  • It shows at number 4 and I am using google.com.ph, but still for a 2 month old site thats damn good

I think this site also illustrates importance of kw in the domain name
  • After you outed the domain name, I bet Google will remove it quietly to page 9. Most probably the website owner won't be that happy with you folks...

Did you really have to expose this in public? Can't you just watch and learn?

    Sheesshhh.

    • I know , i just couldn't help my self hopefully that won't happen, but after all If he is that bad ass he probably won't have any problem ranking up in an other keyword for sure XD

  • I think you try to considering taking different seo company for your project.
  • "how to lose weight fast"

    Hardest keyword on Earth??
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
    • [2] replies
    • agreed. Its a nice term with 40,000 exacts per month but NOWHERE near the hardest keyword on earth
      • [1] reply
    • I know it's not!!! I was under a shock when I write that title, lol

But mainly I was very impressed because this kind of long tail keyword have more searches than the term "weight loss" alone
  • All things taken into account even if google deindexes it after a couple of months its still a pretty impressive achievement imho.
    • [1] reply
    • They'll definitely be able to get a lot of traffic as long as it's ranked highly, which even from a 2 or 3 week will be a lot of traffic.

Another similar thread here for the keyword car insurance on a 3 week old domain.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...insurance.html

I think these sites will stick because they are on the higher PR index pages with most backlinks in their network.
    • [2] replies
    • Yukon, the links won't stick on the homepage. They roll off anywhere from 24 to 76 hours usually. If you hit the network on the weekends they have a longer life span on the hp.

Unless you pay to have them stickied, in which case he has to pay for each article to be stickied on each site and its an additional fee. I looked at a few and they were not, looks like a couple have already rolled off.
    • You are wrong. The car insurance site has no chance of sticking around if its goal is to get any real traffic. Its presently on the second page. Once it goes for the front page it will be tanked probably less than 60-90 days.

  • How do you know the backlinks came from a pvt network?
    • [1] reply
    • Because seo is what I do to make a living. Therefor, its in my best interest as a business professional to know what networks and services are out there, what their policies are, how much they cost and how well they work.

Every time a new network or service hits the market I test it, regardless of how much it costs. I have used or currently use, every thing this site is using to get their rankings, based on a brief analysis of his backlink profile..
      • [1] reply
  • I bet he isnt doing mass profile backlink blasts
those are notorious for lowering your rankings now. (post panda)
    • [1] reply

    • Can you prove this ?..I hear this a lot ..but still have not seen any concrete evidence to back this up.
  • Since the site only gets 1 type of backlink, I believe it won't stick to its position too long.
    • [1] reply
    • This website will do a killing with GA I believe.

  • They have a lot of links from homepage websites. Domain age doesn't make a bit of difference.

    • They got pr6 due to 301 redirect. Check

kanyadatours.com - pr6 - redirected to their website - very old technique to get a high pr within 2 weeks.
  • Do you guys have too small balls to DO IT YOURSELF and you need to publish other sites to get them burned? You feel better when you kill someones business?
  • It feel more like a spam tactic to me, I notice there's aren't any likes from facebook.

Perhaps the picture, the content h1 h2 h3 tag, blahblah are all were filled up with his main keyword.

I'm sure he is using artificial tactic to rule the #1.

Don't think it will remain any longer, feels like a short term of #1.

Pagerank are really random, Google might found that this is unique and wow!!

I'd had a site ranked and got it's PR level #4 within one month time.
  • Maybe they are the same people behind:

Internet Marketing Company | SEO Services | Website Marketing Agency

Since they link to them on the home page using the anchor text "seo services" about 2 thirds down. I've never heard of them, but they seem to have some impressive ranking examples.

    Sam
  • You can get lots of advertising of selling links. Get 100 PR 5+ links or something like that. I think its webmaster purchased link from other websites. (Huge invest)
  • Wow, I would be pissed off if this were my site and it was been ripped apart on a public SEO forum. I think it will be prudent when you find an anomaly in the SERPs to do your own research into what the site is doing instead of making it public... this is how you uncover the golden nuggets!
  • I have a concern, which is that if people are able to manipulate the search engine this easily with the use of high pr pages, won't it be just a matter of time until the G Masters change their algortithm to relfect this?

I use 'Build My Rank' for lots of my sites and they are all fundamentally based on this idea...
  • i am trying This keyword: Trekking in Nepal Since two months

    for my site: treksguide.com

    Anyone give me suggestions?

    • #1) This is not even close to the hardest keyword on earth.

#2) This actually happens quite a bit, even for really hard keywords. Check back in a month or 2, and this site will PROBABLY not be on page 1, or even in the top 50.

We rank for a couple phrases that are quite a bit harder than the above keyword, and we see crappy sites like these go into page 1...then are gone after a few weeks, never to return. Once you get ranked for these kinds of phrases, you become a target for the manual police - and sites like these do not pass manual inspection - rarely if ever.

  • So is it good in the long run to have high pr back links or will google just dell with that to?

  • I am the previous owner of a site which i ranked #2 in Google UK for "lose weight" and "lose weight fast" (NOT the site in my sig). I am also on page #1 in Google.com for "lose weight".

YES, i also *thought* this is the hardest keyword on Earth, but i managed it to rank and it was ratehr EFFORTLESSLY and i did not spend money on SEO.

The key was a good site/design/unique content - and then CONSISTENCY in backlinks and articles etc.

BY THE WAY: "lose weight" and "lose weight fast" are PROBABLY the most over-rated keywords EVER. Don't even remotely think that ranking for that KW #2 in Google will make you a millionaire - FAR FROM THE TRUTH.

There are keywords which are FAR better than "lose weight", some long tails in that niche. "Lose weight" will give you very bad bounce rate and hardly conversion if you only shoot for this keyword. It's more a "bragging thing" than a real life money maker.

YOU CAN rank for such keywords if you try to make an authority site covering many related and Google relevant keywords - with decent content and then linking to your content/articles. You probably cant do it in a 2 months...but it IS doable.

"COMPETITION" only exists in your mind!! <-- i am dead serious!
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [2] replies
    • Its a research keyword not necessarily a buying one. People rarely draw the difference and yes looking at it closer it is really a weak first page. Still a number one or two in the niche is not too shabby even if its not quite up to the hype of the hardest keyword.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • Hi George,

So did you do all the consistent backlinking yourself since you didn't spend money on SEO?

Ballpark how many links per day did you complete? And How long before you got to the first page?

      Thanks,

      Gil
      • [1] reply
  • As to answer your question...the domain name...and the fact that "how to lose weight fast" is already a long tail keyword..5 words...it IS easy to rank (i am serious again) if you don't do stupid things. I dont know about 2 months tho..but all long tails are rather easy.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Can you please tell us more about what you mean with stupid things ?

And IMHO, I think when someone make it to the top of a highly searched term like this, and even if it's not a buying keyword he should have a highly converting squeeze page in place,

So even if you dropped after a few weeks you would still have a decent asset which is the list ...

  • Hi Guys,

I am a newbie here, where did you buy those links?

  • This just proves that domain age isn't as much of a factor in rankings as everyone seems to think.
    • [1] reply
    • Actually if you think about it. Of course domain age doesn't count.

Do any of you remember what the web looked like in 1998? Pre-Google?

If domain age counted for that much then google itself wouldn't even rank. Hell, a ****ty page from Netscape's comment page should rank very well for the term 'Browser' if that were the case.

And on another note, to anyone that's saying this guy isn't getting a ton of buying traffic - you're nuts!

Look at the keyword - "how to lose weight fast?"

Is there no buying urgency in that keyword?

Let me put it another way, if the keyword was "how to lose weight sometime in the next year or so when I can be bothered" then yeah, maybe the audience has some time to really research it.

This is a highly targeted keyword.

If this guy spent $200 a month to be ranked for YES, the #1 keyword in the weight loss niche, he will make that over and over again just with the list he is building.

      This is smart ****!

      I love threads like this.
  • I am not sure about insurance (as people shop around) but I know from experience that a site ranking at position 7/8 of first page of Google with 90K searches a month gets only a few 100s visitors per month.

The claimed owner of car insurance says he gets around 50+ visitors a day before that thread was deleted.

But this is a great work anyway.
  • I am good friends with the guy who ranked this site. We even work in the same company.

No, we're not talking, not now, not ever.

    Thank you
    • [1] reply
    • I've been a fan of the site's ranking speed even before this thread was started. But I think it just lost its top ranking.
  • ROFL The guy that owns that site is a warrior and posted a thread to ask if anyone has noticed a change in the SERPS as his site has slipped down:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...ogle-serp.html

    Coincidence ??
    • [1] reply
    • Probably a coincidence because that guy is complaining about aged authority sites winning out. The "how to lose weight fast" keyword has a 2-3 month old sites at the top.
      • [1] reply
  • It seems the combination of homepages and high PR does help regardles of how young the domain
  • That site is now number 4
I would not be complaining though, still lots of traffic
