Making Money Online takes time and Effort --SCENARIO EXAMPLE***********

People who do not want to do work in order to make online, might as well just get a normal job and try their best to increase their salary. With seo especially, it can take a while to make good money online. In order to explain why it takes time and effort, I will give you a little scenario:

Total Keywords Searches:30,000
Commission per product(physical product for eg):$8 (people usually buy more than just the product you promote, but that is another story )
Dominating number 1 for all those keywords(42% of those visitors):12,600
Conversion rate at 1%:126 sales per month

TOTAL EARNINGS PER MONTH: $1,008

Now that is a lot of back linking, research and writing in order to rank for keywords that get a total of 30,000 searches.

Please feel free to share your stories and how much you earn from what kind of keyword search volume!

THANKS!

Yep, pretty much sums it up.

With enough tweaking you can get above a 1% conversion rate though, but it's all just a numbers game.

Your numbers are wrong, please do not mislead people with phony stats if you dont know what conversion ratio means

if you get 12600 site visits per month, and you convert at 1 percent?

conversion ratios are not based on visits to YOUR SITE
they are based on people clicking on sponsor links from your site THEN what percentage of those people GOING TO THE SPONSOR SITE, then buy the product

so in your example 12600 visitors to your site per month lets say 25% CTR(click through ratio)
so 3150 go to the sponsor
1 percent of those BUY the product so a 1 percent CONVERSION RATIO

so 1%(conversion ratio) of 3150 clicking to sponsor=31.5 sales per month

so that's 31.5 sales at 8 dollars per sale is 252 dollars (per month)

so 1%(conversion ratio) of 3000 clicking to sponsor=30 sales per month

so that's 30 sales at 8 dollars per sale is 240 dollars (per month)
What the OP was getting at is that 1% of the visitors will BUY based on the traffic that website gets.

      -- Jeff

EDIT: Which can also be considered a conversion ratio.

thats normally not how conversion ratio is calculated, if that was the case
his conversion ratio would actually be 4 percent, (assuming a 25% CTR)

a 25% CTR would be very good
so IF those people CONVERTED at 1 percent, which would be probably average, that would be the figures I quoted. Most of the affiliate sponsors I have ever had calculated your sales on a percentage of sales divided by the number of unique visitors you sent to the sponsor. In Adult? 1 in 1000 would be considered normal. In mainstream 1 in 100 is considered very normal, and not even that good.

are you guys telling me that its standard in the industry to calculate conversion ratio the way this guy is doing it? (the OP)?

Weird... Everyone who has responded so far simply "agrees."

You are correct though, making money online isn't as easy as it used to be. I make $400+ / month on 3 Adsense STILL that I haven't touched in 2+ years.

Come on someone tell him he's wrong! Do your keyword research and it's SUPER easy to rank for targeted search terms STILL even though everyone has a method to do so for free or paid....

You can top 3 for ANY term... Depending on how much work/effort you want to put into it. BUT 30k exact is just STUPID. That's going to take a LOT of work and effort.

Target long-tail keywords with EXACT LOCAL MONTHLY matches 500-1500.

Believe it or not guys ON PAGE SEO has more to do with your rankings than your OFF PAGE BACKLINKING.

I don't want someone to respond to this post and tell me I'm full of sh*t... I know this from experience...

        CHEERS!

P.S. The more TARGETED your search traffic is the more money you make per click (AdSense).

    scott, you are spot on.

30k exact matches? Seriously? That is an enormous waste of time and energy unless you've got a big budget.

How was his ON-SITE SEO?! And how strong was that competition... Actually that really doesn't matter... How spot on was his ON-SITE SEO? Wordpress or clean-code, W3 validated HTML?

I tell no lies... Only experience...

Why do you guys think that 30,000 is too much? I mean, I do not find it uncommon to find keywords that get 4-5k exact match searches that are buyer keywords...

YOu would only need 30000/4000=7.5(8) keywords for example. And sometimes you find keywords that do not take that long to rank for...

It's all about keyword research. If you mess up there, then it will take a long time to rank!
