I have seen threads on how to properly do blog commenting. I for one believe that my method was good, but learned that it wasn't until I read this blog, Blog Commenting For Free Traffic (Doing it the right way) » Free-Web-Submission Blog

For all of us who are doing the wrong thing, read this and change your way of doing blog commenting. Doing this method may help us.

The article make sense, but their "right" method is sort of counter-productive to the whole idea of blog commenting for backlinks. They say,
Note: It does not matter what PR (pagerank) the site is or if its no-follow, what’s most important is that its relevant to your website and active (at least one new post per month).
It may not matter to them, but I'm not going to waste my time looking for wordpress blogs that are by default no-follow and hardly ever approve comments, even ones that aren't spam.

If Google sees nothing but dofollow links, you're going to be flagged as spamming. And what's the ultimate goal, high rankings or quality traffic? If your ultimate goal is to just rank high for random, useless traffic. Save your time, buy links, and you'll do fine. If you want get high quality traffic, you're going to need to find successful, trafficed, and relevant sites and get your content there. Regardless of whether or not they follow, or if they have decent PR.

Also having links from nothing but PR5 pages (for example) - spammy looking. You need a broad mix of all keys.

Agreed. I think page rank is actually quite a bit more important than the blog being relevant to my site that I'm linking to. I would rather have a high pr non-relevant link than a relevant pr n/a link.

You're then missing the entire point of why you comment on blogs. If you're commenting purely for the link, you're going about it the wrong way.

Commenting is a way to build and develop relationships with other bloggers, to attract additional readers and not just for the link. NoFollow / DoFollow doesn't matter in this respect.

Perhaps you just go pay $5.00 at fivver for 5,000 backlinks from one of those spam offers, spend your time doing something better than "commenting" on blogs.

Sites also need to have nofollow sites if you want to know.

@adamv: If you are just going to post your site anywhere possible, google may flagged it as spam and may not give you any points. Posting on relevant forums or on relevant blogs gives you more points compared to just some forums.

That was a useful article about blog commenting. Whether you agree with the "no follow" or not, there's still a valuable lesson on what constitutes a spammy comment versus coming across as a genuine contributor.

I'd take this a bit further and adapt the methods to forum posting and guest blogging as well.

        Thanks!

      This.

Though I do try and make sure each comment is relevant to the post. I'm not going to spend hours trying to come up with elaborate comments, but I still try to leave good ones. It's a numbers game, especially with manual approval blogs. If I'm only going to get 25-50% of my comments approved I need to make sure I comment on enough blogs.

You could always use DROP MY LINK . COM to find blogs with keyword luv and do follow and all of that. But what I've been taught is you want do follow and no follows.

But if the blog has over 50 comments then I feel there is too much juice going out.

So many people in this thread talking so much rubbish and stating it as fact!!

Most serious bloggers welcome comments, they will be approved if they are relevant and add to the conversation.

They won't be approved if your name is Dog I.D Bracelets or Kenco Coffee Grinder

No follow, do follow don't matter in the slightest, you may not know this but many bloggers can quickly switch comments from no follow to do follow if it's a good relevant comment. Either way you need mix.

Relevant blogs are the best ones to comment on, take your keyword , post it into google and find the highest ranking blogs you can. Then leave good comments. WHY? those are the sites that get the most traffic and some of that traffic will follow your link if you are leaving quality comments.

Add your keyword to google alerts and get notified when a new post is published.. WHy? The first few comments get most traffic.

Once again stick to relevant blogs, and build relationships with the blog owners, by leaving quality comments, criticism (if warranted) and advice .. WHY? because they appreciate it, they will come to your blog and if it's quality they will comment back and often quote your posts in their articles.

Stop thinking like link spammers and start thinking like professional bloggers

Actually, a comment with an anchor text can be considered as a legitimate comment because those can still add value to the post. Well, you can consider them spam if the link used in the anchor text doesn't have any relation or does not contribute to the post and/or the comments in any way.

Backlinks from comments could be considered as a bonus. Blog commenting is actually more of a relationship building tactic rather than just a method of getting backlinks for your site. The reason why it's difficult to keep your anchor text intact is because there are some website owners that don't allow links within the comment body. If you tried using a keyword as a name, they're going to consider that as spam most of the time.

You're right for the most part. Though there are plugins like KeywordLuv & CommentLuv that encourage anchor text.

I've also run into plenty of other blogs that allow variations of your name & anchor text. For example, "Ron From Water Purifier Reviews." This will lower your approval rate, but as long as you're leaving quality comments you'll still get plenty approved.

Blog commenting is a good way to build relevancy around our business online. Though it is very difficult to get approved, commenting on popular blogs and posts offers a better way to establish online. We need to be careful in making our comments, genuine and insightful comments can be a real bait indeed!

    Hi,

does blog commenting to blogs to my niche does only brings a little bit traffic and backlinks, or does these target traffic from blog comments convert with my own services or as amazon affiliate?

Or does forum marketing better convert with amazon affiliate sites than blog comments?

    best wishes

Thanks for sharing. I've been researching about Blog commenting. You gave me an idea on searching for related blogs when you mentioned that you added "Proudly powered by WordPress" just after your search term. I'm going to try that.
    Thanks
