How many article keywords should an article have for the best search engine ranking?

    Focus on one short keyword and three longtail keywords

    It is my understanding that your keyword density should be between 2.5% to 4%. This makes it relevant enough for search engines to rank you and not so concentrated that the search engines consider it spam.

      That's a great misunderstanding!

      At Ezine Articles, for example, if your keyword density gets as high as 2%, your article will (rightly!) get an automated rejection from their software, without even getting as far as being read by a human editor. There are reasons for that. Two main ones ...

      (i) Ezine Articles does what Google likes, and if Google likes that, so should you (especially if you're writing for SEO, which is a weird thing to do but apparently what you're referring to), and you should make sure your own keyword density never gets as high as 2%;

      (ii) They know that if you use your major keyword as often as twice in every hundred words, your article's going to be "clunky" and "look silly" and be difficult to read. And they're right about that, too.

      1% is plenty.

      It's much better to write for people than for search engines.

      However well SEO'd an article is, you're not going to make much money from it if nobody reads it all the way through. And if you have a keyword density of 2.5% - 4% (!!!) they certainly won't, because it'll be almost unreadable! :rolleyes: :p

    No, it doesn't vary. I use my main keyword about once for every 100 words. I also use related keyword phrases as sub headings and variations of the keywords throughout the body of my article so that it looks natural. If you use your keyword too much, it looks like spamming. When you write an article or review, there are a number of key phrases that the searches look for and expect to see associated with your topic as a whole as well. Keywords are just one component on your on-page SEO.

      If you have 5% keyword density then what do you think will happen to your site if your rankings trigger a manual review?
      I personally would go for lower- about 1% plus use LSI keywords in the articles as well.

    It should be 2% to 3%. I mean to say, if you have 100 words in your article then 2 or 3 keywords should be there to get more for your website.

    Yeah, I agree.

    Keep kw density around 2%-2.5% and your article will naturally have related kw's in it as well if its a quality article.

    Thank you guys for all the answers stated, i was actually ready to ask this same question before something skipped my mind to search the forum before asking. I normally write articles for my site without concentrating much on keywords but i have got the gist and not to overdo the keyword thing because google hates it when your keyword density exceeds 5% oop that's pretty too much though. One keywords and 3 long tail keywords on a page
