Hello everyone and thank you in advance for your helpful reply.

Assuming I get two PR3 relevant backlinks to an insurance oriented site, but one is from a USA website and one is from a Germany based site (in English), does it make a difference to Google from a SEO standpoint that one of the backlinks is from Germany? Will that backlink carry less weight?

My site is base in the US.

Thanks!

  • If you are trying to rank in Google.com, then it isn't a big deal.

If you are trying to rank on an international TLD, like Google.co.uk then it is highly recommended to have incoming links from those TLDs as well.
  • I don't think it matters too much.

    • It doesn't matter but having backlinks from different parts of the world makes google think your website is important and talked about all over. It's a good thing.

it does not matter that much, but it provides diversity to your link profile because they come from different domain extensions. Link diversity is one of the most important things when seo. I hope I answered your question.
  • Yeah, as others have said it's not super important. However, if your site was German and targetting people in Germany, then it would be best to have as many links originating from Germany as possible.
  • It matters a lot.
But the following factors also matters if you rank for specific region

    TLD
    Hosting
    Who is information
    Contact Us details

  • From the SEO view point, I think they carry equal weight because they are of the same rank in the books of Google. They are just like two officers having same rank and right belonging to different departments. Hope that you got the point.
  • If you target google.com then both links are helpful for increase the ranking of your website and if you target country specific like .co.uk, co.in.. etc then both are not so helpful for improve your ranking.
  • Dont just think about the country based backlinks. whatever country it may be, the first preference goes to the quality and relevancy of the backlinks.
  • Getting backlinks is good but running behind backlinks is not really good thing. Well if you have studied Google behavior's after panda than you must have observed that Google is actually discouraging manual link building and they are keeping a close eye on the increasing rates of backlinks of a site. Try to be look real if you cant be swapping and buying links can cause a serious damage
  • It doesn't matter until the backlinks you have from a German site is relevant to your website, if your website is also related to insurance then that link will certainly help you in ranking.
  • I have the same dilemma.
If I want to get an Italy related site on top of Google I need the followings:
    A domain with .it TLD
Backlinks from domains with .it TLD
And/Or backlinks from any domain containing Italian text.

    What do you think?
  • i think it doesn't matter untill your backlinks are from the same insurance niche.
  • It does matter in terms of what kind of links the site you get links from has...
  • It does matter a lot especially if you are interested to rank in country-specific search engine.
  • I am agree with savyeman but the link should be relevant. If you want ot get more idea about that just use backlinksindexer like good site.
  • hey man you are right, backlinksindexer is like country of quality backlink.
  • It matters. A couple of years ago or so I tested this out for myself. I started linking to a few of my sites from a few Malaysian internet forums. Shortly thereafter I was getting a lot more Google traffic to these sites from Malaysia and Singapore, and that's still ongoing. Also, when I've linked to my sites from Norwegian web properties, my sites get more Google traffic from Norway.
  • If your site is base in US and your target is Google.com, it doesn't matter..
