Question about internal page PR

Guys, I have asked many people this questions, but have not received a satisfactory answer. Consider this example.

I am building links to my website. I go to a forum and leave a meaningful comment with my website address (home page or a specific page) in the signature. The forum is say PR 5, but the page that I posted on is PR 0. Similarly, if I go to a dofollow blog and leave a useful comment with a link to my site in the url box, i face the same problem. the blog might be PR 4 but chances are that this post will be PR0 or maybe 1 - 2. The same thing with article marketing etc.

I have an internal page lin on a PR 7 website with the internal page lin being PR 0. The page with my link is already indexed in google, so my question is what sort of benefit am I getting?

The only method that seems to mae sense is getting to a website's home page. The only way you can do that, is either buy links, exchange links (which has its own problems) or have lots of friends.

Does this mean that the other methods are not really useful?

Some of you will say that PR is not the only thing that matter, it is relavency and other stuff too. Well, for me relavency is a big issue, coz my site is VERY general. It has things ranging from funny pictures of people falling to the best workout videos to ungliest celebrities.

All suggestions are welcome.

  • You seem to already know what your problem is. Don't you already know what the solution is?

    • That is not really a problem. There are websites e.g. Oddee or tiptoptens or thechive that draw lots of traffic from search engines. They are the same thing as mine i.e. general.

I have reasonable SE traffic but not that great as compared to these guys. I get about 1000 people a day from SE only, plus there are other sources as well.

As I said...no one seems to answer the QUESTION...people comment on things AROUND the problem...instead on the actual problem

    • Hi ups1984,

      Websites don't have PR!

PageRank is assigned to individual pages, not websites. The PR of the homepage is inconsequential if you do not have a link from the homepage. It is the PR of the page where your backlink is placed that matters.

Keep in mind that you are not able to see the true current PR for any webpage, only what it was at some point in the past, rounded to the nearest whole decimal. The real PR is updated continuously and not available publicly. Every page that is indexed and not penalized will have some PR. Even a new page is assigned a fraction of PR (0.15) as soon as it is indexed.

Also, keep in mind that every new webpage starts out with a small amount of PR that grows as new backlinks are indexed. Look for pages that are likely to receive high amounts of traffic, as those are the type of pages that will tend to grow in PR. Your PR1 backlink could become a PR 4 backlink in a couple months and perhaps even higher over time.

As to your website being "General" that isn't necessarily a problem. Search engines do not consider the topic of a website when ranking in the SERP. They only look at the topic of the individual page. Each page of your "general" website can, and should, have a very specific topic. You can focus on getting each individual page to rank for its' particular topic.
