Hi! I am playing with Facebook ads and would love some feedback soon if possible, since I'm running the ads and my funds are decreasing. I am a newby to Facebook advertising and don't have much of a clue. (Any recommended resources would be great too).

Can you tell me your thoughts. This is for a Facebook FAN page.

Reach: 8,500

CTR: .102

Price 34 cents a click

The clicks seem expensive to me? I have tested 3 other ads and this seems to be the best one. Is this awful CTR or what? Any advice?

My other ads were getting .06 and .08

Facebook lowers the cost the more targeted the reach is. My guess is you needed a few different keywords or interests to hit that 8500 reach.

Cut the interests back to 1 or 2 and put together a highly unique ad and you will see the CPC come down.

    That usually works for me.

Thank you so much for responding! I had about 8 interests, I cut it down to 2. Thanks for your help!

Come back and let us know how that worked for you. I know from experience that usually slashes the CPC by a pretty big percentage.

Don't forget if you are targeting a very small group of people and you have a great ad, you are often going to get cheaper clicks using CPM (cost per thousand impressions) rather than CPC (cost per click).

I have been doing this lately and seeing consistent cost per click prices of only $0.01 - $0.04.

    Latsyrc,
What I know for sure is that .30 per click is way too much to pay.

I have had targets of 14 million that I have gotten .05 clicks on, and I have had 11,000 targets that I received .05 clicks on as well. I have probably had an even amount of each, so now I duplicate 6 ads which is super easy to do with the create similar ad feature.

Then I do 3 big and 3 small audiences. Then I work with the direction that is showing me the lowest cpc.

Also contrary to popular opinion I can't get CPM to be cheaper then CPC in most cases. Even with a great picture. Sometimes it works, but in most cases I stick with CPC, plus it allows me to sleep at night. I had a bad CPM incident and I'm still suffering from PTSD. lol.

I only highlight these anomalies so in case you see some inconsistencies with what is being suggested you know that it's normal and for you not to get discouraged.

    Good luck.

I have found in my testing that doing geo targeting and using the geographical area within the ad copy has boosted my CTRs, thus decreasing my CPC when utilizing it with the CPM model.

And if you target internationally by excluding the US,Canada, and UK, the prices are dramatically cheaper.

Just some food for thought since I have no idea what you are promoting and what your campaign goals are.

Keep your Facebook Ads short and simple. For example, "Click Like if you love metal detecting."

You can also try mentioning an offer or discount code. Facebook users love a good deal.

Last but not least, make sure your Facebook Ads target relevant audiences. Your cost per click will go up, if Facebook users feel your ads are irrelevant and give them a "thumbs down".

I had heard the CPC discounts were all the result of a high to the CTR, in Facebook land a 0.2% is very good. Easy to accomplish if your promoting a sweepstake with a juicy prize.

Also heard that CPM ads are given more crummy placement, like on game pages.

Try to play with your ads. Don't just write ads and target all what you have there. You have several options and use them all. Will help your CTR. Target exact audience with exact keywords (interest) and you will see the results. I run 16 campaign on Facebook and some of them are for hot niches but I don't pay more than 0.04$ per click.

Keep on making small changes to your ads and then move on to CPM and test it out there.

If you can get your CTR to 0.2%, you can get your CPC down to $0.5~$0.10, from that point, switch over to CPM to get really low clicks.

Here are some calculations to put things in perspective:

@ 0.1% CTR with a bid of $0.20 CPM, you can get a $0.20 CPC.
@ 0.2% CTR with a bid of $0.05 CPM, you can get a $0.02 CPC.
*This is assuming that your CTR stays the same through transition from CPC to CPM.
*This is also assuming that Facebook treats CPM ads and CPC ads the same way, which some people on WF do not agree with.

Edit: The numbers above are from my experiences on Facebook Ads, yours might differ.

Thanks everyone. I will definitely report back, right now the ad has been reapproved but nothing has happened yet.

I am creating new ads on top of that. I can really only target people in the USA because it is yet another coupon blog. I noticed no matter what I target, the starting CPC is over 29 cents. I put India and the ad dropped down to 9 cents. However I need people in the USA I'm thinking to get people to buy or click through on my blog.
