    Hi

How much traffic are you getting and where is it coming from?

Your rank in google is not a direct factor on sales, it is an influence on the amount of traffic you will get when people search for your keywords.

Your sales are determined by how well that traffic converts.

So you need to look at the following:

For the keywords you are targeting and ranking for:
    - How much traffic can I expect (based on exact monthly searches)

    - Are the keywords "buyer" keywords?
For example, "washing machine" may get more search volume than "washing machine reviews" or "band-name washing machine" but the latter two are more likely to draw higher converting traffic (farther along in the buying process)

Look at your traffic stats (Google Analytics or AWStats) and see where your traffic is coming from, how much traffic you are getting and what keywords are driving that traffic.

    Then look at the conversion.

If you are getting 100 visitors a month and no sales then that is more likely a lack of traffic that is the problem. The solution is to find ways to increase traffic.

If you are getting 5,000 visitors a month and no sales then it is more likely an issue of converting on your offer. The solution is too look at your page, to see why people are not clicking through to your offers. Also examine the type of traffic (buyers/researchers/info seekers) to see if is traffic you would expect to convert.

Can you improve the page design to get more visitors to click through?
Can you target higher quality traffic?

This is actually one of my main problems I think with one of my sites. I have solid content about general items but nothing specific, like brand or manufacturer's names.

Thanks for pointing this out; it's something I'm definitely going to have to work on.

As for one of my other sites and on the note of making it in competitive niches, it's taken a little over two YEARS but my one bookmarks site finally made it to page one on Google for "wedding favors." I have positions #9 and #10! I am ecstatic!

"Wedding favors" is the ultimate in competitive niches and to finally hit page one for that phrase when my primary keyword is "wedding favor bookmarks" - wow. I'm loving it!

Why would someone copy your design if you are getting zero sales ?

If you provide the website we can help.

Trust me, no one is going to steal the design from a website
that does not convert. You are going to have to trust.

    Yes it can be frustrating...

A page 1 listing does not GUARANTEE sales - depends on market, how much of a need there is and how targeted the traffic is.

LOL I agree with Nathan. This is precisely why I stay away from promoting physical products. I learned this from a podcast once think about it, when people search for physical stuff they rarely make one stop, they always shop around, which is the main reason why they hop online to begin with. So your site could be number one cuz of all the great content or detail but since they are shopping around they may not make a buy move until their 3rd or 4th site.

I mean don't get me wrong being number 1 is the best place to be but I just have never been a huge fan of generalized product promotion. Try being a bit more focused with the keywords you rank for.

Actually theres more to being top spot in search engines when it comes to sales.

Internet marketing or SEO is not all about ranking on top spot.

There are a few factors that mush together.

Here are some in a nut shell.

    1. Right keyword [ keywords that convert ] - there is more to choosing keywords than just low competition or high for that matter. u must think what is on the mind of the guy behind the computer while typing in a keyword to search for ur product.

    2. Right title that shows in google.

    3. Good sales funnel.

    4. Converting product.

    5. Good content.

    6. Neat and user/reader friendly.

    7. Good call to action.

    8. Link between content and product.
-i once did a site on cookbooks when in my early days of IM. My content is talking about easy recipes and the cook book showed all the complicated dishes.
End up i had spot 1 in google for the keyword "dinner recipes" "easy recipes" "simple recipes" etc and i still had no sales.

It's fairly simple to get a site to rank fast for a low or no volume keyword.

How many exact monthly searches are shown in a- Google Keyword Tool Search -for your specific keyword?

How many page views are you getting?

Your question is in regards to sales and we don't even know if you are getting any traffic.

I recommend a sales funnel so you can track how many people are actually visiting your website and determine what is and isn't working. Just having a website is like opening a restaurant without any waiters.

What keyword are you on page one for!?

This makes all the difference in attracting buying customers versus non-buying visitors.

You should aim for page one for a buyers keyword like:

    Buy [Product Name]
    Cheap [Product Name]
    [Product Name] Review
    etc.

You need to follow this up with great content and a strong call to action.

Also, your keywords must be getting a decent traffic flow before you even attempt to rank them.

Get all this right and you WILL get sales.

Remember, traffic x conversion = sales.

Are you even sure that your keyword has traffic? When doing keyword research, have you checked how many visits it gets per month?

Also, as dadamson pointed out, try to aim for buyer keywords:
    1) Best ways to...
    2) How to...
    3) Ways to...
    4) Best products against...
    5) etc.

Also, selling physical products is tough. Go to Google Insights for Search and check out the trends. If you are promoting "BBQ grills" then you shouldn't expect to sell anything in winter.

All sales are about traffic and conversion. You need to figure out where the problem lies. Is it a lack of traffic, or a lack of conversion once they get to your site?

Being on page one for a keyword that no one is searching for is irrelevant, because you won't get any meaningful traffic. Having a website that gets traffic but has poor site design and/or no content will not convert well.

Only you can know how much traffic you are getting. An no one can help you with why your site isn't doing well without seeing it. As others have said. If you are on page one of Google and aren't getting sales, no one is going to steal your design.

Very well put, just because you are on page 1 doesn't mean you are going to make sales. Your site has to be compelling to the visitors making them want to buy what you are selling.

Research your keywords with Google Analytics.
Do you have good pictures and descriptions of your products?
Do you offer products that have demand at the moment? For example, if it is winter will it be wise to sell sun lotions?
Doe's your products have good quality and reasonable price?
Sometimes people doesn't want to buy from seller only because he have low visitor stats, low or 0 sales and no feedback.
    Also try Ebay etc.

Promote your site in social media as your medium in attracting your customers into your website, but the content of your page must be genuine and high quality as well as in the latest trend in the industry. Build a strong foundation of trust and credibility with your community by staying up-to-date with their inquiries in order to provide customer service and this process will convert customers into sales. Good relationship with the customers is the key.

It's just a normal scenario.....It's a learning lesson for other SEOs out there who are craving too much to get their websites on top of Google...

Regardless of any technical issues, did you make something interesting about your site? Bear in mind that you have to deal with users/searchers properly if you want to make some good sales, and catching their attention is one of the greatest ways to make sales.

A wise internet marketer once said "don't just make your visitors view you site...Make them sign up/subscribe"...How can you do it? Well, you don't have to be a genius with full of pure champion stuffs to do it...Just make something interesting that will catch the attention of your visitors before you proceed in promoting it...

    Cheers!

You can share something about your site or the product that you are selling in social networking sites. I found it very effective because I've seen online marketers who made a huge sale from it.

Page 1 doesn't mean you will make sales

I'm page 1 for 1000 key-phrases and only make money on maybe 15-20 of those ( the rest I just happen to rank for because I optimized for a few)

Everyone is page one for there company name, unless there doing something drastically wrong, but it doesn't mean any sales for them.

It depends on the keyword, the traffic, the market, the product etc

Even if all them ducks are in a row, and you have a poor page, poor design or poor offer you won't make sales.

Can you provide us with some of the above stats and we may be able to help.
