Make money w/ News curration site+Forum for adsense

Hi guys,
I've been trying to make my own online adsense empire and my early start in mini-authority site did work as much as I have expected. I made money for around 2$ since its commencement. Well, it has gained the bottom first page for its primary keyword and I'm sure I can push it up to top 3 positions within 3 months with high quality and consistent backlinking.
But I feel like daily routine of backlink hunting (I'm doing everything manually since I dont have enough money to buy those tools) and spinning content manually for my site are not something which is "into me".
I haven't given up on it yet but few days ago I was wandering on the web and I came across several sites which simply currate the contents of news site and republish it in their own sites(They are currating not AGC) and without much of backlinking they gain good SERPs and massive visitors.
Some website like Hufftington, perez hilton, etc..
I have this thought on my mind to create such a website but with an addition of forum facilities to increase the user interaction and experience and monetise it with ADSENSE and possibly Clickbank and CPAs.
Has anybody tried it before ? If so, would you like to share you experience on it ?
