I was #1 for a while for "mayo diet" (mayodiet.net), and then my site got removed from the term and I don't even rank. I don't get it, because I still see my site listed in google, just not ranked for the terms I target.

Have you installed Google Analytics? I did this to one site I have and it disappeared shortly after. I didn't realize that was the cause until I read this thread:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...iche-site.html

Now I appreciate GA doesn't affect everyone's sites, but after what Patrich talked about in the above thread, I gave it a go. In the thread I wrote a few days ago I said my site was back at #97. This morning it was at #27. So I'm on my way back! Don't think it was coincidence but whatever it was, I'll be leaving it as it is. I use the Statcounter Wordpress plug-in now.

So, just my 2 cents. With Google you just never know though, they're a mysterious bunch at times:confused:

    I can feel your pain.

There are many factors in SEO.

Like someone said before, its an imperfect science.

So you can tell us more details like what u did and what u did not do.

    Then people can advice better.

With just saying it disappeared its very hard to tell you why because there are 1001 potential reasons and further more GOOGLE is not in this forum. hahaha

  • You can read Google's claims about Anayltics here:

Frequently asked questions for the Google Analytics data sharing options - Analytics Help

Will sharing my data directly affect the ranking of my natural search results, ad quality score or ad placement?

Your website data will not be used to affect your natural search results, ad quality score or ad placement. Aggregate data across many customers will be used to improve our products and services.

But isn't improving their products in direct conflict to your sites potential to not be in line with what they want for there own profit motives?

Was your sites content of low quality, did the content add user value, you have to remember it's Google's job to make search results as relevant and as useful to site users as possible. If it does nothing for nobody Google will brand it 'useless' and dump it at the back.

Blog comments with high OBL only go so far and no more.

If your site is still indexed, but not showing up anymore then it will most likely be an algorythm penality and not a manual one.

This can be because of hidden links/hidden content/low quality thin affiliate website or most likely bad/low quality backlinks.

There is nothing you can do but waiting.

Thanks. I'll keep building links and hope that isnt the exact cause. Just odd I can consistently rank top 10 for months, hit #1 for a couple months and then disappear completely for over a month.

I've removed GA, admittedly out of fear and will clean up the on page content.

To start you will want to make all of your advertisement links nofollow. I have seen a definite relationship to this.
Dofollow a couple of links out to information sites (wikipedia.org, non profit in your niche, etc..)
As an authoritative site (you), it is important to contribute link flow to the correct types of sites. Go Panda!

Make sure you have good on-page SEO when cleaning up the content. Like many posts on here mentioned, continue to build quality backlinks and be patient and most likely you'll see your site back.

Remember to be patient as new Panda update only once a while.

    UPDATE:

Well I went from #1 to not even ranking for over a month. Now today, after deleting analytics and removing a bunch of auto-blogging pages I find myself back to #1.

I was on the third page yesterday. I can't say if it was analytics or that I removed my auto-blogging pages that did it, but from now on I wont be doing either.

Just wanted to update this so people can see what I did to resolve the issue. Now its time to find the best way to monetize.

Likely had nothing to do with any of what you did, honestly though good call on removing your autoblogging pages. That's just a recipe for disaster and a good way to jeopordize your Adsense account.

What I would do is recommend changing your theme, that theme would make me bounce back to the SERPs FAST. Try adding something that makes your users stick on the site a little bit and not bounce back to the SERPs. That will help you maintain your rankings.

Finally, I'd recommend getting some quality backlinks aside from blog comments. That will help you maintain your rankings for the long term as well.

First question, how old is your domain? Second, how long have you been in the top position? Third, where are how did you build backlinks? If you could answer those questions, you could already give a decent answer for your question.
