Nofollow doesn't mean that Google doesn't crawl or index it. And while Google wants you to believe that they do not use nofollow... they in fact do.

I have proof of this when I misspelled some anchor text and the ONLY links that had this misspelling were nofollow.

And the page ranked for that misspelling.

Now I suppose you could say that it ranked because of the misspelling and no competition, but if that were the sole case then why wouldn't they have automatically filtered the results based on the nofollow?

Do I believe there is benefit to nofollow... sure do. Do I believe in general that the nofollow links do not ad much SEO value... yes I do. But I do not believe that Google ignores them entirely... no I do not. I just believe they place very little value on them, which is what seems to be the case. So they are not completely useless for SEO, but I wouldn't spend a lot of time on them.

Google seems to reward diversity and clearly they can set their filters to anything they want. What do you tell them if all your links are as certain kind of link or perhaps even if all your links were only dofollow?

The Squidoo/Hubpages whatever 3rd party SEO question gets asked over and over and over.

So if one were to take advantage of the SEARCH features of the forum it's likely they would find many tips and opinions on this matter.

I just set my blog/site to dofollow with comment luv to do some testing on my own. The problem is I get so few relevant links commenting on the articles in an intelligent fashion that I'm sure it's going to take a while.

nofollow is not as bad as you think it is better to mix dofollow and nofollow backlinks for natural link strartegy

Nofollow is better in some cases than do follow. I will use an example of a yahoo answer link. It is no follow but gets indexed immediately. It is pr8 and they show up in google serps. a Yahoo answer best answer link is like a social bookmark on steroids.

Squidoo and Hubpages can be both powerful nodes pointing to your money site, as they have unique and niche related content on it.

At least i hope that yours have.
Web 2.0 properties like this are links i definitely don't want to miss in every backlink profile.

Squidoo is very good for SEO and also gives you backlink for your website.

Squidoo Lenses are do follow in the text area, some times takes up to a day though.

RSS feeds are no follow though.

I think Squidoo is a do-follow site. I'm not quite sure if it has changed coz I haven't used it for quite some time. It used to provide me with powerful link juice that I actually benefited from.

Based on my experience ...Squidoo backlink is very valuable and it could raise your site'rank in search engine search result..To maximize the backlink you have to build backlinks to your lenses..You can bookmark them or do blog commenting or other link building strategies..

Squidoo is nofollow, but it helps to get traffic in SEO....

I agree with MRWonton, all the links from my lenses as well are dofollow.
Of course it may be, that your lens is not featured, then Squidoo will not include your lens in searches.. but even so.. i still think your links would be dofollow

Im not really interested in ranking these Web 2.0 properties as i want all the linkjuice for the main site.

Squidoo and other 'Web 2.0' websites should be part of an overall strategy. You would not only build links from this one website. It would be part of a strategy to build follow/no follow articles, videos, blog posts & more content.

Squidoo is DO FOLLOW why is everyone under the impression its NO FOLLOW.

It seems to me that the question here is: we all know that the main goal is to be building links and traffic to a main site - not a squidoo lens. Yet if we just publish the squidoo lens and keep it out in the lonesome no one will see it. What is a reasonable (minimum) plan for building traffic to a squidoo lens that is pointing to your money site?

Squidoo is a powerful site for off-page SEO. Lenses get PR very soon, because of interlinking on Squidoo.



I normally build backlinks to Squidoo lenses, but just a few. I submit my lenses to Squidoo Directories, social bookmarking sites (great for indexing your lens fast) and to some sites that approve Squidoo lenses.



Almost all of my lenses are on the first page of Google. You don't need to do a lot to rank your lenses high, because Squidoo is a huge authority site and Google loves it.



Backlinks from a lens are do-follow. You just need to wait that your lens becomes live (approved by Squidoo). I checked this today with add-on for Firefox, and links are do-follow!


I have around 12k traffic each week on my lenses (I have more than 100 lenses).



Don't forget that no-follow links are important, too for rankings, because when you build that kind of backlinks, Google sees that as a natural backlink building. It's not wise to have just do-follow links. That's unnatural.



Use right anchor text (keywords) for your backlinks pointing back to your main site. Build backlinks to your tier 1 backlinks (Squidoo, Hubpages, ...).

Though Squidoo is a great web 2.0 property and is Google Friendly also but from last 1 month Squidoo has changed and only few lens are published green i do not know the real reason yet.

Just adding my two cents, I actually have received decent backlinks from Squidoo and notice some are dofollow. Not to mention that it is simple to post on Squidoo so it doesn't take much time to build the links. Its a win/win in my book.

In micro-niches it can work very well, try it on Amazon products.

They are not as affiliate friendly as they used to because of the hit they took in a previous Google Panda update. However, play your cards right and you will benefit from squidoo, hubpages, etc.

Squidoo is great. Remember to promote your lenses just as you promote your site and individual pages and posts. So anytime you go on a backlinking spree don't forget those lenses.

And Hubpages has also brought me a ton of traffic too.

Like its already been said, you shouldn't pay attention to nofollow. Its not natural to have only dofollow links, and google clearly is following nofollow links.

Squidoo is good for SEO. I've got a lens with a page rank of 3 with no links from external sites, only from squiddo. Took me about 15 minutes to build it.

But squidoo is only one part of the puzzle. Keep your links diverse.

Squidoo is dofollow. The only thing nofollow are the comments WHEN the approval is automatic. However if the comments need to be approved first, they are also dofollow. I haven't seen a nofollow Squidoo lens in ages, even the links in WIP lenses are dofollow if my memory serves me well.

I think no one has mentioned that you can make money from Squidoo itself, both through affiliate links and adsense share. Some people make some nice money that way - I wouldn't mind being one of them!

That's funny how people give false information with confidence. Squidoo is do-follow but not every link in it. If you have a Squidoo lense and use contextual links back to your website they are do-follow which are very useful. When it comes to comments on lenses, the lensemaster's name is do-follow which give authority to the lensemasters' profiles that comment but links in the comment are no-follow so not much benefit for your website if you just comment on lenses from other people. To benefit from Squidoo you should develop original lenses with contextual links back to your website and then have backlinks for those lenses as well.

I wanna share my experience..I create lenses at squidoo to my site's backlink..Then i build backlinks to the lenses..But then what..? The lenses ranks higher than my sites..what do you think guys..? What Can I do to make my site rank higher than my lenses..?

Squidoo is actually a backlink goldmine. I've been using it for years. I also got some generous commision thru Squidoo. Not that much but it generates sales compared to my adsense.

Can't stay quiet listening so many wrong theories about Squidoo. I have been using it for SEO reasons (not making money from lenses, but for building authority on my money sites).

If you are in making money with Squidoo, listen what Mitja Drame (up) said. He makes real money with Squidoo, but beware, promoting lenses can be very time consuming and most of mentioned methods give pretty poor results. Most important step is first one: keyword research.

If you are on Squidoo for SEO, follow the rules and common sense. It is a community, if you want just taking and not giving, you will be out in no time. Believe me, I reached level 80 in 6 months.

About no-follow: Squidoo has modules with default do-, no-follow tags and do- or no-follow tags. But all links are worthless if lens is in poor condition (you need good ranking in SE, PR > 0, even position of link counts...)

All tier 1 lenses (2.000) has very powerful backlink background, so don't expect to make direct money in first two months. But if you play your cards right...

From what I can remember, Squidoo is nofollow only if your account there isn't a "proven" one - you have to first get some kind of proof that you are a regular poster and that you are providing value regularly, then your links will turn dofollow within your lenses.

But even if it stayed nofollow, it wouldn't matter too much - everything indicates that the search engines in fact follow nofollow links, and it's only logical if you think about it - if you, for example, link "naturally" (not for SEO purposes, for example, you bookmark something you stumbled upon that interested you), you don't care whether the link is DF or NF - that's why I think the search engines follow even nofollow links.

Squidoo links in the text modules are do follow. Just view the page source of your (or any) lens to see for yourself.

I think links in the comments might be no follow though so maybe that is why people are confused?

This is a very good thread about Squidoo. The links are dofollow if placed properly. Also its a good source of traffic if you can manage to insert yourself into a community. The best thing you can do is to keep releasing lenses and make sure they get featured... HubPages is also a great source of traffic and do follow links if you rank high on it as well. I think you need an author rating of 80.

Squidoo works best when you have more than one lens. Squidoo has built in internal linking where your lens shows your bio and a link to the other lenses you have created.

But, aside from creating more lenses, other things that I do is to post in the Squidu.com forum, include at least one of my Squidoo lenses in my Warrior Forum signature (so that one is getting a good SEO boost). I submit the RSS feed from Squidoo lens to Feedage (just because I'm too lazy to do a bunch of RSS feeds) and then I'll usually find a couple other ways to get a link to the lens, either bookmark it myself, or purchase a Fiverr gig.

Some Squidoo lenses I've created have done well right away, others, well I had one I promoted using Angela's backlinks for a couple months and yes, included in blog signatures, and it went nowhere.... then 6 months later it suddenly was high on Google's page 1 results.

Other lenses I've done very little promotion and they've done well, I guess it just depends on the competition. But you need to offer good content so that people will stick around and read what you've written or watch the YouTube video. Create a page that entertains.

I dabble in Hub and Squid pages for backlink value and precision anchor-text links to my money site. But I certainly don't build the pages to help THEM make money off my content. We're far better off optimizing our own sites and content FIRST.

I've actually had a Squid or Hub page OUTRANK my own site which is NOT ideal. But at least it led to some indirect traffic until my own site gained enuff authority and PR to outrank the lens or hub I built.

Squidoo can actually rank itself for keyword search terms! It is also a great property to use for back links to your own site. lots of people browse squidoo so it can be a good way to drive traffic.

Another nice way to utilise it is to build back links to your squidoo page. this will act as a filter as your do follow links to your page will get the benefits too.

Squidoo will bring traffic to your site if you build your lens properly on its content. I put anchor text on it.
