I don't know if it's google dance or not, so I will ask from you.

I build my site on 22.sept.2011 after 1 week it got to page 3. Then I made some serious backlinking and I got to it to page 1, position #6. I continued linkbuilding and now it has been dropped several places to page 1, position #10.

How would you describe this?

Thanks.

Well in my Opinion The Ranking you get was not permanent, Google found some backlinks against your keyword and it provides you value against it! After Panda 2.5 Google which happened on September 28 Google remove your rankings!!

    Now How to Recover?

Focus on Qualitative Link Building Campaigns and after some time you will noticed that your keywords will be appear in Google!! Whenever its appears it will be permanent and these sort of incident will not happen again

Google dance is the time period when google sends its spiders to crawl a website to check for its contents, it is said to be happening once in a month, nobody has got any better idea about when google is indexing the web pages. In recent times indexing is done regularly. At this point of time the ranking of a website can fluctuate or dances, when checked on the servers in the data centers of google. Chances of a higher ranked website getting disappeared all of a sudden from (SERP) or Search Engine Resulting Pages is more.

A drop of a few places cannot be reffered to as a dance in the form that people understand it (weather it exists or not) probably just a fluctuation because your site is new. Maybe some links that were found were on a site that was unreachable this time so diddn't get counted or something.

When you newly make website and started to build the backlinks in many numbers then Google considers it spam.

Your site rankings are very unstable as its a new domain, just keep building links at a consistent rate and you will be there in no time

This happens to me all the time, i have over 200 sites and been doing seo for over 10 years.
when you have a fresh new site, google will dance your site around the serps. Basically google is checking out your links, your content and trying to determine where your page should be positioned in the serps.

The dance will last for between 1 week to a couple of months, then it will find its place and settle down.
Think of the dance as like the soldiers going out finding your links, and then it reports this back to king google. King google then decides where you will end up.
My advise keep building links slowly, your site will land high.
