I have a keyword that is on the mainpage of my site.
# 1 position in google for last 6 months
Spyfu states 7.58 - $9.03 cost per click with 21 advertisers
Market Samurai states 11.01 CPC

For the last 6 months the average that I have recieved is 1.16 cpc
I have never got a click that would equal the lowest payout ( according to Spyfu (7.58 * 60%))

What factors make the real payout so different than the statistics?

The short answer is those values are for the search network, not the content network. Advertisers generally pay far less on the content network.

My rule of thumb is take the lowest estimate for CPC I find, take about 15% of that, and I use that as an average CPC that I will get. I base all my projections on this. Might be a little conservative, but it works for me.

I do have 2 sites that actually get close to 50% of the CPC that the adwords tool shows, but most don't.

If you're averaging $1/click you're doing just fine.

Go to google adwords tool click on "contextual tool"

The CPC you are referring to 9 dollars I have NEVER seen that high on the contextual tool, the highest is usually 4 dollars maybe 5 dollars would be high but above that is rare

do not ever go by CPC in Market Samurai and certainly do not go by the CPC in
Google adwords tool that comes up (I believe these databases are either the same or very close to each other) The CPC in those instances is the price Google charges Adwords advertisers to advertise on Google.com, not on the Adsense network which is lower by far

SpyFu I also think is off

are the terms that you're targeting the terms that are getting the clicks? I check my log files and see the keyword and a bunch of other strange search phrases as well, unless the targeted keyword shows up consistently you're probably receiving clicks for the non-targeted keywords as well. Just because you've optimized it for a certain keyword doesn't mean that that's the one that's getting the click, it depends on what search term the visitor uses to get to your site. You're not going to get your targeted keyword click every time. If you have Awstats scroll to the bottom and see the terms there using to find your site, and the searchengines or sites that's sending them to you.
