So i've had a group of sites for a while now. At first my CPC was pretty bad and for about a year my click through was terrible. I used to get alot of "public service ads" and stuff and figured that adsense really didn't know what to show on my pages. Lately I've been doing alot of link building and stuff and I've noticed both my CPC and my clickthrough are improving, yet it could be attributed to more then one thing as i've been improving my sites from many dirrections and and I am not sure what exactly has led to the improvement. I was wondering if someone might be able to better explain my hunches. Here are some of my questions if someone knows: 1) How exactly does google determine what ads to serve? is it totally dependent on the content on the page that is is on? or does it look at the entire site to determine what is relevant? Or do they look at what keywords are pointing to my site/page?

2) I think google may increased CPC with age of a site as they feel it is more respectable and therefor more trustworthy?
3)Does a higher ranking for keywords in the search engine make my site more relevant for that keyword and therefor increase the chances that an ad targeting that keyword will appear, which leads to:
4) Will having a decent ranking on several keywords increase the competition for ads on your site, and therefor increase the CPC that you will receive due to having more "bidders" for your ad space?
5) If 4 is correct, should I do some targeting of relevant, highly competitive keywords that I'll never rank well in just because a lot of advertisers target those keywords?
Thanks in advance for any feedback that you can provide
