Recovering from Panda hit... here's what I did..

One of my websites promoting CPA offers was hit badly by Panda and completely eliminated from search result... not even inside top 300 lists. It was on 3rd place before and earning an average of $30 to $50 a day from organic traffic...

What I tried and succeed:

1. I copied all content and saved in my hard drive
2. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the wordpress script and created a totally new site (still the same domain)
3. I edited all articles (same articles) and posted gradually at the rate of 3 per day.
4. Instead of putting direct CPA links, I created more than 50 blank files (1 per product I am promoting) and uses these links to redirect to the actual offer page. So when google check my links, all considered internal.
5. Now, my website is promoting more than 50 products but there is no single direct outside affiliate link. All are 301 redirect.
6. After 4 days, my site is getting back into ranking (now on 42nd).

I think the major factor is the linking... I remember a video with a google engineer discussing about SEO that lots of ads and outbound links are major factor in ranking....

hope it helps a little.

  • That sounds interesting. Couple questions.

How long ago was your site hit, and when did you begin revamping?

    • My site disappeared for almost 4 months... I had no time to revamp so I just did it recently.. I totally modified just 6 days ago.... I can't even believe it's recovering fast.... 95% of my backlinks are pointed to my homepage so I did not worried losing some when I deleted the old posts/pages.

    • No need to tell me to learn SEO principles.. I've been in this business since 2003.. That website was not taken seriously before the panda was implemented.... that's why it got hit...

What I am doing right now to correct that mistake is a combination of seo principles and strategies..

    • What is "REAL SEO" for you? You've never posted about it once. You only talk about how you're so much better at SEO but you never explain, NEVER, how you do it.

  • I understand and agree, that my site had poor content and I also knew the reason why that was deindexed. It was created solely to promote CPA products and the content was not good enough..... That's why I am modifying everything...

One thing I didn't agree.... Affiliate links has major effect when you have links all over your website... Google have it's eyes focused on websites made for advertising (just like MFA sites)
  • I have bad content ranking. I'm not promoting bad content I'm just tired of people jumping straight to content issues. Has to be other factors and op pointed out one of them.
  • How did you redirect? Googlebot can detect a redirect no problem, just fetch as googlebot on your redirect script!

I thought about redirecting googlebot to the home page and everyone else to the aff links but in the case of a manual review this would surely be a size 12 boot out of the serps. Although I can see a few #1 sites using this strategy. But for how long remains to be seen.
  • Why don't you stop pedaling your garbage. You've not seen the guys site or his content so how can you say his stuff is garbage. And just because you build "quality content" doesnt mean you're safe from Google updates as there are plenty of people in the forum with "quality content" site that got hit and plenty of "garbage sites" slipping through the cracks. Google is NOT perfect.

For someone preaching "quality relevant content that adds value", you've offered no value in your non-relevant posts besides a bunch of generalized ideas that every Tom, Dick, and Henry with half a wit can come up with.

So since you've added "no value", keep your "garbage" to yourself.

    • THANK YOU!

I'm sick and tired of "Ron Hitson" posting his crap no-value posts. He thinks hes the SEO god and knows everything about high quality sites. Yet he NEVER posts anything valuable or worth reading.

People seem to just skim over his crap or call him out. Just today I've seen about 3 other people call him out on his stupid useless posts. I hope people keep calling him out on it.
  • wow deep... nvm i'll give it a try and see how =)
