Hello everyone!

I'm really impressed with the amount of useful information that we have here, but I could not find an answer to my problem.

First of all, I'm a programmer in php, mysql, html, and related some years ago and because the theme of the company that worked for many years never had to learn seo (despite that, I study and know the main rules to apply in my work.

My current situation is as follows:

I have a fan blog about an online game for over 1 year and recently reached the milestone of 2 million unique visitors despite being at # 4 in the big G. Panda Update Before I was at # 2 and my main competitor was ranked # 1. My site loads very fast (41% of the site visits carry less than 3 seconds and another 31% below 7 seconds)

Currently my site is # 4, # 5 and # 6 in the main keyword (the name of the game), my competitor is at # 3 and the official game site occupies the first and second positions. The keyword search is 60k a month and I get only 3% of these visits. I have dozens of other key words in the first or second place in the search.

I've done all possible optimizations onsite and have a few backlinks because the only relevant sites are my competitors and they are all nofollow.

My competitor is not updated since May and have not checked on yahoo relevant backlinks to their site.

What tools can I use to find out what really is missing for my site over the competitor who is at # 3?

The only way you can increase your ranking is with more backlinks. You can try my guaranteed ranking service, or build the backlinks by your own, and I highly recommended you checkout ArticleMarketingAutomation or MyArticleNetwork, use them to build backlinks for your site.

thanks for the help and information.
My sites are not in English (they are in Portuguese) and so I fear that these tools do not work.

Adding new content daily helps a lot, if you don't already have it, put a Google+ +1 button on each page, and as everybody else has said, you have to build backlinks. Some good places to do this are Youtube, Free Article/webpage/blog sites, and forums.

backlinks are important even if the subject does not have any relation to the subject of my site?
I thought the backlinks and PR had been demoted to have little importance.

PR of my site is 2 and has several other internal links have PR 1.
My adsense ctr is around 2 to 3%

another question: share links on facebook / twitter ( i have almost 5k followers) / google plus is a good way to gain links or useless?

Best option is to make some quality backlinks on huge pr websites (PR 5-9). If it will be do-follow links it can boost your position in search engine.

Why not give BMR a try? Your links would be published on decent PR sites and over time could make a huge difference as long as you are consistent in posting.
