New to Wordpress - Basic Newbie Question or two..

Hey guys, im very new to WP..

I installed the Heatmap theme. Like many others out there, i see that it comes with pre-installed features like Blogroll, Archives, Recent Posts, etc, on the sidebar.

How can i remove these? I went into "Appearance>Widgets" from my WP dashboard, but those things are NOT enabled. I was hoping to just drag them out of the sidebar. From what im seeing, they seem to be hard-coded into theme itself. Is this correct?

Do i have to touch some code to remove them from Heatmap and any other themes i see with the same features?

  • Just drag another widget to that same bar. It will replace those!
  • As above.

Or if you don't want anything appearing there at all you just need to go into the Appearance Editor and go into the Sidebar file and delete the relevant HTML sections.
  • Thanks for the answers, guys. Although i admit, it seems counter-intuitive to embed widgets, as they're practically being forced on the user.

I'll look into the editor, thanks again.

    • Well the Archive, Blogroll, etc widgets are pretty standard for most WP themes.

As soon as you drag your own widgets into the sidebar this stuff should disappear anyway
