hi there fellow warriors.
I have a question.
If I pick a keyword lets say with 27 millions searches every month and this keyword has very low competition does this mean that the keyword is not good?
I see that some keywords have lets say 80k searches a month but the competition is very high.
I dont know how that works.high search low competition.
low search high competition.
thank you for all the help in advance.

any keyword is good. you just have to be smart for a second. i saw someone who made 300$ each month from a 22 searches.
oh by the way, when you search for keywords make sure you check [exact] in google keyword tool, so it will show you the exact number of searches.
but what matters in ranking a keyword to 1# in google is the competition. you should analyze the first 3 websites in google to see if it is easy to rank for.

Just like ddDonPaul said, any keyword is good, but do not try to rank for the one word. Go for the long tail keywords. It's easier to rank for them and the main keyword is already contained in them.

You need to make sure that you are analyzing keywords with "exact match" selected. If you are using "broad match", you are not analyzing keywords correctly. The amount of searches with "exact match" is what you should be looking at because this is the accurate way of determining how much traffic a particular keyword gets.

I believe that any traffic is good traffic. If you can get high rankings for keywords that get searched, you will be able to make money. You could put adsense on those sites if you have no products to sell in that niche.

so..if the broad search is 600.000 a month and the broad search is 27 millions how do I combine those numbers?

Im guessing you meant exact search 600,000 and broad 27million.

If thats the case I'll show an example.

Micirosoft has Lots of broad searches but there would be a lot less of a number for exact because many people type in "Microsoft windows", or "Microsoft windows xp" or "microsoft windows 7" etc

see how it goes? the broad uses the number of times that phase appears in a search, but it may not be what you want.

search in the left side of google keyword tools for some boxes to check. hit the [exact] box and that`s it.

so i just have to focus on exact match..dont pay attention to broad.?
Im going after a keyword with 600.000 exact searches a month.and believe or not it has very low competition.what do you guys think about it?
if Im on the front page using adsense will make me some money?
Im thinking about CPA as well.
I have never been on the first page before so I dont really know what the results would be.
my blog will hit the first page around december

Check the competition on page 1 in terms of the ages of the domains, pagerank, number of backlinks and other factors. You can't always go by the number of results when you put phrase in quotation marks.

Also, see if it is a buying phrase or not. If it is an informational phrase, people may not be interested in the adsense ads or cpa but it can still be a way to get traffic to your site and direct people to other pages within your site.

There are huge amount of keywords with 1mil + exact searches and low competition (at least judging from google tool), check : people , house, car for example.
But it doesn't mean that they are easy to rank for. Before jumping on particular keyword think if You actually can deliver what people are searching for and if You actually can get anywhere near to top 3 results on google.

That's why it's much easier to go for long tail keywords, it's much easier to know what the searcher actually wants to find.

I am sure that people are searching "house" in google for thousand different reasons.

hey man, i don`t want to discourage you...but if you`re new to adsense/seo/etc don`t try to be a millionaire over night - it won`t work and you`ll be dissapointed.
try searching for a long-tail keyword that has about 1000-1500 exact searches per month. analyze the top 3# spots in google for that and see that you can rank fast and easy for it.

i`m pretty sure that the most experienced internet marketers around WF won`t be able to rank one word keyword with 600 000 searches. or if they can do it, they would have to work real hard.

Here`s a great tip: search on this forum free information about how to make some money from adsense. Try searching for micro niche websites. You can find a lot of free, quality informations for free here.

      Good luck

Just wanted to ask, the competition you're referring to isnt the competition shown in google external keyword tool is it?

The competition shown there is for adverts, therefore the competition being high there is a good thing, more advertisers! And less competition in the google tool is a bad thing, less advertisers competing against each other.

At least I hope I'm right else I'm going the total wrong way myself.

I highly suspect that you are judging "low" competition based on the competition bar in Google Adwords Keyword Tool.

If so, then you are making a big mistake as that refers to the competition of people bidding on that particular keyword phrase for their Adwords campaign. It tells you very little about how hard it will be to rank for that keyword.

The main use from a keyword research perspective is that if you are creating a site with Adsense, you want a keyword with a good CPC (at the very least, $1 and good Adwords competition).

It depends on the intention of the searcher. If it is too broad or in the wrong phase of a consumer... then you might be wasting time on a 'unprofitable' keyword.

I suggest you find out what is the intention of a searcher who is searching for your said keyword and then decide whether or not to pursue based on this.

I've a post here that shows you how you can learn the basis of keyword intentions and how you should choose your keywords.
