Hi Guys-

I have a fundraising site focused on the arts/entertainemnt we've been working pretty diligently on with decent conversions but finding it hard to drive traffic. Was about to focus on PPC but it doesn't seem like a niche suitable from my initial research as there's like a low demand for specific searches, but people always looking to raise money, or perhaps my keyword researching is just no good. We have an ad budget of a couple thousand. Without going into too much specifics, what would you suggest for promotion of a product like this at first thought? Hire a VA? SEO (also didn't seem quite right for the product)? Your help is much appreciated.

outside of SEO, you should definitely use social media (facebook and twitter).

One idea is to sign up for a program like woobox and host a sweepstakes that requires people to fan your page as an entry, and invite other friends for additional chances of winning. Since your ultimate goal is to raise money, partner this sweepstakes with another company - so say "X company pledges to match every donation up to $X and will give $.10 for every new fan until Nov 30" or something like that. I think there may be apps for FB to additionally take donations or you can hook it up with your webpage.

Then advertise the event - which will get lots of people to share and do the work for you. Facebook ads aren't as cost effective as I would like them, but you can target people by interest which works better for fundraisers and charities.

I know you're here for SEO (I'm still learning that as well) but FB is my specialty and that's one thing I would do in addition to whatever good advice you find on here for SEO stuff.

I have to agree with sharkey.

I very rarely will say that SEO isn't the answer. I'm not necessarily saying that right now, and I don't know your keywords and what your goals overall are. If there isn't the search volume you want, in order to benefit from SEO then you either need to pick different keywords, or think about other avenues.

I think facebook and any social media or web 2.0 site will be great for increasing visibility and general interest. I think press releases would be good as well!

Without more details, it is a bit difficult to give good suggestions here, but I can understand not wanting to give away your niche.

+1 for social media. To me activities like fund raising is more suitable for facebook and the likes. I think creating a free give away could be the fastest way to find traffic.

Promote your product via two types of methods: 1-free advertising:
such as- use of articles, social networks, ezines, forums, classifieds, blogger, traffic exchanges, etc.
    and

    2-paid advertising such as:
uses of paid campaigns, buy google adwords, yahoo ads, paid advertisement in social networks, buy traffics from TE, etc.

Sharko is right, start your campaign on social media but don't hang on with only one. Twitter/stumble upon, slashdot, are some other nice and useful social networks. Along with social networks, I urge you to participates on popular newspaper discussion boards too like Wall Street Journal, New York Post, Washington Post etc. They also give you benefits if post some good points.
