Hey Guys

Just want to know if I got this right?

Can you get a page or pages in your site penalized and not others, because I think two of my pages on my site have a -500 penalty while the other pages are ranking #3. This is possible right?

I think it is because you rank pages not sites, but it will affect my other pages right? by having pages with a penalty for some reason it will have to have some negative affect on my other pages interlinked.

Thanks

Isaac

    Hi Isaac,

Yes, Google will often penalize just one page in a site, rather than your entire site depending on what you have done to incur this penalty.

It usually happens to your homepage but can happen to an inner page too.

Are you sure you have been penalized rather than simply not ranking for a keyword yet?

There are penalties for both pages and entire sites.

Generally a page penalty will not effect the rest of your site.

    Do a site:domain.com/Exact-URL-Here/

If the page shows up in the SERPs, no penalty exist.

The site: search depends on your specific site setup, so try both www & non-www.

    Example:
    site:domain.com
    site:www.domain.com

Also just another question, if you have a -500 or any penality. it's just -500 and then your ranking? let me explain a little more: say I was ranking 24th then I get a -500 I would be 524 right?

    Thanks

Okay also forgot another question If i have a page ranking #3 for one keyword and then 524 for the next, could you have a keyword penalty? is that possible? because if the keywords are similar and I build links to both, isn't weird that they would be so far apart in rankings?

Sorry about the 3 post, thanks for all the help.

Yes, this is possible... If your one or two pages are meeting up or violating the quality guidelines, they may get penalized.

On the other hand, Panda algorithm targets pages of websites... So, it might be Panda update which is harming your website.

Google has said, in light of the Panda updates, that even having a few bad pages (on an otherwise good site) can affect the entire site. If it were me, I'd get rid of any page that I thought was problematic.
