• Use social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. C'mon! Don't tell you don't have an account on em'.
• Write and give away a free, valuable e-book or report and put your site's link in it. Please, make it worth it and stay away from rehashing.
• Guest post on relevant blogs within your niche. Yes, yes, it works.
• Network with other bloggers and webmasters. Contacts are everything.
• Start a newsletter and start adding subscribers. Even a monthly one would do for a start. Yes the keyword here is 'start'.
• Create a Digg-worthy or Reddit-worthy content and try your luck. If you're lucky, your servers will crash.
• Get backlinks from relevant sites. How? Ask them.

There isn't one "best way" to get free traffic.

The most appropriate way for each marketer to get free traffic depends on many, many variables, including especially their own skill-set.

But in general, it's a very good idea to think about traffic that isn't dependent on Google or other search engines, because SEO/ranking traffic often has a habit of not being too permanent (as so many Warriors have been discovering to their cost this year).

If your entire business is dependent on Google for its traffic, then you're only ever one algorithm-change away from a potential wipe-out.

I get most of my own free, targeted traffic from article syndication, but that way happens to suit me because I'm a writer. It all depends on your own skill-set and capabilities.

Try social bookmarking. Works for me. I'm with StumbleUpon.

I've had really good luck with forum posting in my main niche. Spend time actively participating in the conversations and you will start getting clicks.

I also get good results from social bookmarking. I use SocialAdr for it. I have noticed boosts in my search engine rankings since I started using it as well.

I would suggest you to get as much as forum posting in your niche forum site this will bring some targeted traffic to your site.

You have received a lot of good advice. If you want one way it's going to depend on you. What do you have in your repertoire that you can do day in and day out without getting burned out on it.
I actually started with three different free ways. They take me about two hours to accomplish a day.
Find what works for you, because what works for me may not work for you. It completely depends on you.

start linking the top social media and bookmarketing networks to your site. list your site in directories then start writing unique articles. after doing those things you should start see the traffic flowing in.

I think google has given free traffic to us at any time. but you must be diligent in posting, and select topics of interest. sorry if I am wrong advice

There are tons of free traffic techniques out there that can prove to be very useful however you can master social media such as facebook, twitter, etc. - but if you aren't delivering extraordinary content to your readers - non of these techniques will prove effective.

You can drive tons of traffic to your site but if you have nothing of value to offer your readers will quickly lose interest and just fade away...

In my opinion the first thing you should focus on is learning how to write GREAT COPY....

Once you master this technique you can syndicate your articles to your blog, guest blogs within your niche, article directories, facebook, twitter, youtube, etc.

One GREAT article can bring in tons of FREE responsive traffic to your site and you can literally bounce it around on the web (LEVERAGE IT) using the various marketing techniques everyone is talking about.

There are so many different ways you can bring in a lot of traffic to your website. You just need to be smart about it. Social Media is one thing I would really focus especially if you have a lot of facebook friends and or twitter followers. Just make sure to provide quality information and you can make some serious money!

Google can give you free traffic without any effort if your content is unique. Besides that social bookmarking and social networking are the best ways to get free traffic.

What do you mean by free traffic ? If it is organic (Traffic that comes from google), then you need to rank higher on google and for this you need to be more and more efficient in witting content and build link for it.
