It's the start of the new year, I thought I would compile a list of the top 20 recommended Wordpress Plugins that you should have on your Wordpress blog that I personally use them on my own blog.

1. Atomic Blogging 3.0 Social Submitter

I love to submit bookmarks to Social sites, so I created this plugin called Atomic Blogging 3.0 plugin that will help you to submit your blog post to many social bookmarking sites when ever you post your content on your blog. Helps a lot in bringing traffic to your blog

2. Akismet

Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not. You need a WordPress.com API key to use it. This plugins helps to get rid of all the spam comments on your Wordpress blog.

3. Google Sitemaps Generator

This plugin generates a XML-Sitemap compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog. This format is supported by Google, YAHOO and MSN Search.


4. Global Translator

Automatically translates a blog in 34 different languages (English, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Greek, Dutch, Norwegian,...) by wrapping four different online translation engines (Google Translation Engine, Babelfish Translation Engine, FreeTranslations.com, Promt).

5. Anarchy Media Player

      Some great plugin suggestions.

      Here is our list of what my brother and I believe are ten of the essential WordPress plugins for Internet Marketers.

      Note that the list is not in any particular order.


      All in One SEO Pack

      As the name suggest a fantastic "all in one" plugin for SEO on your blog. Saves you having to load a number of separate plugins to achieve the same end result.

      Essentially this plugin allows you to easily edit and control the Title, Meta description, and Meta tags for every post you make. This overrides Wordpress annoying default of using your blog tagline asd your meta description and keywords.

      It works well with other plugins in our experience.

      This is great for automatically finding relevant tags for your posts. Whilst it's generally a better idea to add your own tags that you have researched, this plugin looks at what is popular based on your content and adds these popular tags. Can be a real time saver. As you know, using tags is incredibly important in blogs.


      Google XML Sitemaps

      It's essential for you to have an xml sitemap which can help you get indexed quickly as well as rank well in the search engines. This plugin creates an xml sitemap for Google, Yahoo, Msn, and Ask.com


      Akismet

      Got Spam? Want to stop getting it? Use Akismet. It's not perfect but helps you to dramatically reduce the amount of spam you will receive on your blog.


      WP Stats Plugin

      While there are a heap of plugins to product stats, many are far to complex. This plugin focuses on just the most popular metrics a blogger wants to track and provide them in a clear and concise interface (pageviees, which posts/pages are most popular, where traffic is coming from, etc). All on a single page. Simple is Good. Less is more.


      Max Blog Press Unblockable Popup

      Whoops did I say that? An unblockable popup? Yes this can be useful when your not happy to just ask people to opt-in to your newsletter or whatever, and would prefer to not so subtly jam it down your visitors throat. This plugin gives you a choice of doing that.

      RSS Include Pages

      Got some pages of content not on your blog that you want to include in your blogs RSS feeds? This plugin enables you to do just that. It's simple, effective and works a treat.


      SEO Friendly Images

      Forget how important it is to label your images for SEO goodness? This plugin automatically updates all images with proper ALT and TITLES attributes.

      You can get a lot of serious traffic from images.


      Share/Save/Bookmark Button

      Add buttons to enable your visitors to do just that to your posts. A great way to build backlinks, and drive more traffic to your website.


      Wordpress Backup

      You do backup don't you? This is one of the most overlooked functions and is so important. Can you imagine having to re-create your blog from scratch? With this plugin you don't need to (imagine). It backups your WordPress site. Simple, automatic, use it. Enough said!

      RSS Backlinks Plugin

      OK.. I may be a bit biased, but we believe our free RSS Plugin that automatically gives you backlinks is a vital cog in the arsenal of Internet Marketers.

      Just install it, register once with the 4 RSS aggregator websites, and then each time you post you automatically build backlinks. It doesn't get much easier than that.

      Platinum SEO - This is a branch off of the All-in-One SEO development tree that has a few extra features I like.

      Old Post Promoter - Recycles old blog posts to the front page. It's great for simulating activity on niche blogs.

      Yet Another Related Posts Plugin - An easy to use related post plugin that uses title, content, category and tags to find related content with no futzing around with the DB. It also shows excerpts, which is nice.

      Insights - An admin area plugin that allows you to search for related content on YouTube, Wikipedia and elsewhere.

      Ad Rotator - Rotates ad code from a centralized location.

      Tinymce Advanced:       Adds a lot more editing buttons for your pages and posts. One click and you go right back to the standard buttons. Click again and tinymce advanced is back.

      Theme Test Drive: Upload multiple themes and switch back and forth between themes to see which theme you like best.

      My Page Order: Easily change the order of your pages (not Posts) by just dragging blocks.

      Header Footer: Easily modify or add to your header or footer. Add html footer links easily like a "normal" website.

      Max Banner Ads:       Easily add affiliate banners and/or Adsense to your sites. Free version leaves a small link to their site but you can add your Clickbank affiliate ID to it.

      Comment Sorter: Change the order of your comments from descending to ascending in a second.

      Change Admin Username: THIS IS AWESOME! Have you ever tried to change your admin username before? Well, I can tell you that it is a major pain in the arse that requires you to dig deep within the bowels of your cpanel, but not with this plugin. Install it like any plugin, change your username, and then for security reasons, uninstall it and POOF - you have a new username!

      Add To Any Subscribe Button:       Puts a cool subscribe to you rss feeds and social sites button on your site via a widget.

      Advanced Excerpt: Lets you limit how many words you want your 'home page' posts to be.

      Ozh' Admin Drop Down Menu: For 2.7 and above. Makes WP so much easier to navigate with top drop down menus instead of the new left side menu.

      WP Answers (by Neil Harvey): It is a paid for plugin (Its inexpensive though) that sucks content based on your chosen keywords off of Yahoo Answers. Set it to "pending review" so you have control whether you want to use it or not. I use it for content idea's. If I get something good then I'll do a quick rewrite and use it on my sites. It of course also brings you the answers and some of them are quite good and you can use them as comments on your site.

      Thats it for now. All those plugins work on up to WP 2.7 and they are all very good!

  • One quick note: be careful about adding too many plug-ins to your WP blog. Each plug-in requires a bit of processing time. If you have enough of them, it can make your pages load slower.

    Nice post. Just wanted to put forth my opinion. I think Platinum SEO plugin is a must for every wordpress Blog and it take cares of most of ur on-page SEO. And ya, its better than All in SEO plugin. Happy Blogging !!

      Crosslinker allows you to assign hyperlinks to certain keywords that appear anywhere on your site. For example, if I assign a link to this forum to the work "warrior", anytime "warrior" appears in one of my posts or in a comment it becomes a hyperlink to this site.

      Crosslinker isn't working for me and I need something similar for my site.

It must also have the ability to allow visitors to the site to upload their own photos with the option of moderating the photos. It must have thumbnails and it must have a proper and easy to use administration panel. I don't know if there is a plugin out there that can do this.:confused: But this would be helpful.
