Scaling MFA to Authority Model

Hey Guys,

I wanted to get your input on this.

I started adsense with the whole xfactor craze 2 years ago. Made around $30/day then everything crashed. I forgot about it, got busy with a new job. Now I have about 10 domains left that bring $1 a day. I just got 1 ranked to pos 1 in google and brings about $2 - $5/day.

I have been adding content daily trying to get the site up to 20 pages of content then I will add content as I go along.

I am running into some issues because the content is getting limited.

1) Should I start addressing broader topics? (I am not concerned about keywords here but rather providing good valuable unique content to the visitors. My pageviews have doubled in the last month since I started to add content)

2) How will addressing broader topics effect the brand/credibility of the site?
i.e. if my domain is "blueishtotebags".com and I start writing about any "tote bags" or "bags", then will that tarnish my brand with visitors?

My focus is to really create helpful and content rich websites that will last in the long run as I have learnt from the past.

    • Thats what I am focusing in on. I just write content everyday for that broad topic. I just make sure to write an attractive title and good content.

      Thats the name of the game. Some other competitors that rank higher than me have adsense all over the their site. Makes me wonder why google hasn't de-index them yet. I guess the same reason my one pager haven't.

      Time to focus on making each site at least 25+ pages. I hope each site can get to at least $2 - $5/day.

    Anyways, to answer your question, my best advice is to go ahead and add content to each domain, as you planned, but do your best to schedule out posting. Consistency is important to Google, and one of the best ways to avoid seeing significant rankings drops is to be careful how much you do at once. Big bursts of either links or content aren't nearly as effective as a steady drip. To Google, Consistency = Trust.

    Also, I would advise you diversify from Adsense at least a little bit. Build a list or something...It's really hard and even if you don't have any products to sell you'll atleast be able to encourage recurring clicks, and if anyone ever wants to advertise this could come in handy.

    As for the questions regarding broadening your topics, I would advise that you DO go ahead and go that route unless it would create overlap between your websites. For example, if you have 2 sites, greenwidgets.com and bluewidgets.com, you wouldn't want to write about green widgets on bluewidgets.com and vice versa. This is the kind of duplicate content that DOES get penalized.

    I applaud you for getting back into this...Those Xfactor sites really have the potential to make some money if you take time to grow them out a bit. More content and more promotion, that's all you need to do.

      Appreciate the input.

      None of my websites overlap. They are all separate niches. I have been researching the niche's like crazy (on forums) etc.. to find relevant topics that people are looking for.

      I was going to let go of all the xfactor sites because I wasn't "honest" with the content as it was just about earning a buck. But when my renewals came up, I thought it be an oppurtunity to learn if I expanded them into authority.

      I had about 40 domains and cut them all down to 10. This way I am focused and can create good content. I am tracking everything I can about these 10 sites to learn as much as possible. Then I can apply this to my main authority site that I am building which is a passion of mine.

      Adsense is all about traffic which makes me nervous because I depend too much on Google. Hence your idea about the newsletter is great, but I have never created a newsletter before. I am going to research and try it out.

      I just have keep adding valuable content.

      The more I research for my articles the more I realize that content everywhere is the same. The articles are titled and written in a way that grabs the reader.

  • Nothing wrong with expanding the topics of your content as long as its still relevant to the general topic of your site.

    If its not relevant I would bet your rankings will suffer.

    IMO, you would be better off to focus on your best performing niche sites, then scale them up as large as possible with new content.

    I've done well by saturating a single niche.

    Sell-off any sites earning the least amount of money, invest that money back into your best earning sites (new content, etc...).

      That is a great point. That is what I did. I looked at my domain list and just saw the ones that have good potential to earn and rank. i want to give these 10 a fair shot to rank on the first page then check the earnings factor.

      I never ever did SEO for these sites and just let them be. Now I am trying to get them on the first page to see their earnings. Then I will evaluate and get rid of the ones that don't earn.


      Were your sites also MNS that you expanded or much broader keywords?
  • Hey HB, if you've got a spammy-sounded exact match domain, I'd probably start again with a more branded domain. There's only so far you can take a domain like that - not far enough to turn into a real authority site.

    This is the warriorforum.com, not cool-online-marketing-discussion-forum.com. Brand matters.

    You want to get every step right, so you start with a great domain and build up your authority and community from there.
  • Or just keep your little niche sites as-is and use them as little feeder sites to the new, bigger and higher quality money sites.

      The problem is, most guys that built xfactor MFA sites built a bunch of small sites in random subjects (keywords). They picked anything they could get their hands on.

      Not much point in sending random traffic to unrelated sites.

      If you was a guy searching for snow tires on site-a would you follow a link on site-a pointing at site-b for:

      roller-skates-for-girls-under-12.com
