Adsense - Images have less CPC?

So I'm looking at my adsense click stats and I notice that image clicks have a considerably lower CPC than text clicks. Images are like $.01 - $.05 whereas text has been $.10 and up. Has this been the case for you guys as well?

No Images CPC can be very good, it depends on the niche i guess.

It really has nothing to do with image or text. It is what
ad the highest bidder is using.

If the highest bidder has an image, how can that be lower?

If the image is in the first slot, it will have a higher CPC than
anything else. If it's on the bottom, it won't. But that has
nothing to do with image alone.

Yes, but as i said (and tested also before saying it) in some niches images perform better. For example in Photography, Travel and a couple of others.

Not to mention that in those niches image ads have high click rate.

Performing better was not the question. It was CPC.

In fact, google rewards the best performing adwords users with
        a lower CPC.

But image or text has nothing to do with CPC. It's all about the
        auction.

By "performing better" for the publisher i mean better CPC. Some niches have a lot of Image ads and some not.

My image ads have always had higher cpc than my text ads. You should also check out the countries that you are getting traffic from, this matters a great deal.

My own test with text/image Ads have shown text to always win with higher CTR which also has better earnings at the end of the day, which is all I care about.

I suggest everyone do a 50/50 split test with text/image Ads on their own site, we all are not in the same niche, so all we can do is guess what another guys site is doing.

I try to run 50/50 split test on my Adsense sites once a year just to make sure everything stays the same (earnings). Run it for a week & see what happens.
