Hi guys and gals of WF,

Does anyone know whether embedding a video (ex: YouTube video) on a page will give it a back-link?

  • Are you asking how to get backlinks for a youtube video? because i dont think that really matters its all about the view count when it comes to video on search engines

    • Really?

      I am not saying I don't trust your answer tahoecale, I am asking because I am genuinely interested in what you said about view count determining placement of videos on YouTube. Where did you hear about this? Is it from personal experience? I have seen some videos with a small amount of views above videos with many more hits.

      Is there something I have been missing?

      The reason I asked my initial question in this thread is that I was wondering whether videos at the top of the YouTube SERP's, where it looks like the uploader know nothing about SEO (and thus has not been backlinking them), have backlinks from sites that embedded them. I guess I should take a look in siteexplorer at where their links are coming from and see if they are embedded on these sites...
  • I am not sure about this.But once I have heard that I can add some html code in those embedded videos with a link in it.
  • Embedding definitely gives you view count. And view count is not the major but one of the criteria for youtube rankings. If you had two exactly same videos with exactly the same text, descriptions etc. the one with higher view counts would rank higher.

    Good luck.
  • No, embedding a video on your website does not give backlink.

    Link placed on other websites pointing to your website is backlink. For getting a backlink from video distribution website you have to insert a link in your video description.

    P.S. : Backlinks from youtube are nofollow.

    • Not correct, you just need to know where to place it to get a do-follow link from youtube.

    I think embedded video will provide the backlinks. As use the keyword in the title of the video or you can use it in the description or information below the video. So that will generate the backlinks to your site if people likes the video and found it helpful. So be sure for the meaningful and attractive video.
  • I think video promotion in youtube is mainly getting traffic from the viewers and visitors. This method will give the site great exposure and giving the latest trend in the industry through posting quality videos.
  • I recently have been making advertising videos and was going to post them on 50+ video submissions sites and having a backlink to the actual product I am trying to sell. What kind of results can I expect from something like this.

  • You can get backlinks from YouTube and boost the links from there site as well by building backlinks to your video on YouTube.com.

    All you need to do is simply put your links in the video description and that's it.

    You now have a link from YouTube to your site.

    You can also use this for drawing traffic to:

    * Affiliate Offers
    * Squeeze Pages / Lead Capture Pages
    * CPA Offers

    NOTE: Also add in the video a call to action to "click your links in the description below" and you'll get higher click through rates.

    I can't show you a link to a video that shows this in action as I'm not allowed to post URL's in a post yet.

    Cheers
  • Yes, it will give you a backlink, but the backlink wont mean much of the PR of that site is very low.
  • maybe you mean outbound links from your website to youtube? because certainly you won`t get backlinks by posting a youtube video on your site.

  • I heard that community is what gets you ranked higher on YouTube. So view counts do help but I read commenting may count as backlinking. You may want to try and engage the community to increase your views and build your YouTube web...
