Should I buy an 8-year-old Exact Match Domain?

Howdy

Lets say that my niche is on Cats

And i've found that cats is my #1 converting keyword.

Cats.net is for sale for $870.

And the domain is 8 years old.

But, the domain also hasn't had any real content on it.

Do you think its a smart move to buy it?

I realize it depends on how valuable the term is to me and stuff... but i'd happily pay 870 to have a site that doesnt' dance around and ranks pretty well.

(I've found aged domains to rank much easier)

  • Grab it while you can. You can sell it, you can develop a site for it. If I was you, I'd run with it

    • Make sure the domain was indexed for 8 years, not just registered for 8 years. There's a big difference.
  • If you put some real content on and get indexed the value of the site will shoot up. ( If its not already indexed) I say go for it.

    • It is not a big amount really. If it's a good domain, 2 words or 1 then it's good value. Especially if this is a buying keyword as OP says.
  • Thats cheap...trust me!
  • exact match domains are the best for me. so grab it!

    • What about .co, .me, etc?

Are those any good? Which is best?

  • It depends on how much search volume there is for the keyword. How much search volume does it show in Google Keyword Tool? Or more specifically, how profitable is this term for you?

If it's over 40,000 searches/mo I would say definitely do it.
  • Like Karson say's, there are alot of things to look at. Check the domain on the way back machine. Is it ranking well now? Is it not ranking because they have gotten delisted for doing something stupid? If so your going to deal with the dance as you try and get credibility back and it will cost you plenty in the long run...

chyanitseospecialist - you need to familiarize yourself with the term "thread hijacking" google it if you have to - then ask your question in a new thread...
