    You haven't taken into consideration what PR each of those backlinks carries.

    And how do you explain this? I have a site with over a thousand backlinks but it carries no PR.

    Please explain.

    With all due respect this thread is an epic fail. Nobody can give you even a rough guide as to how many links you will need to achieve a certain page rank. It's all relative to the PR that the link is on, total OBL and much more. Sorry but this can't be used in any form, it's simply not goin to be useful to anyone.

    It is very difficult to find out the nos. of links which can increase your rankings. It is important that you build links on relevant website and a website which has less spam in it.

    There is another chart floating around which shows how many links you would need from PR1 sites to get to a rank, PR2 sites to get to a rank and so forth. According to it you would almost 4000 PR1 link but only one link from PR6 site to propel you to PR4. PR8 would require 3 links from a PR9 site or 2.8 million back links from PR1 site.

    Not sure how authoritative that information but one of my site that is 10 year old is still PR2 but another site that is 10 months old was PR4 in its 4 months thanks to a link from a PR6 site. Though not representative sample, it rings true from my limited experience.
