Ways To Rank My Company's Site - (Possible Promotion to Online Marketing Director!)

Hello everyone. Long story short, there's about a 95% chance that in 2 months, I'm going to get promoted from a lowly warehouse worker to a newly created position of online marketing director. Quite the promotion if you ask me. With this promotion, I'll be handling the social media aspect of our company and other online marketing tasks but my main job to begin with is going to be SEO.

The company I work for is known worldwide and has 2 websites which are both PR3's. One is focused on duck hunting and the other deer hunting. Combined, both sites receive around 60,000 visits a month which are about 90% brand-related. I'm going to be trying to rank for high comp terms such as "Duck Hunting", "Deer Hunting", and about 10 more that are a lot less difficult than those 2.

My question is this, what ways or routes would you guys take to rank for these high competition keywords? I'll have a lot at my disposal but I've never taken on any SEO project of this magnitude. This all just happened today so I haven't had much time to think of many ways myself. One idea I have currently is working out some type of deal with other high PR hunting sites where we get anchored links in exchange for whatever.

Thoughts?

First things first, go for quality SEO and not some "$2 for 100k Backlinks"

Also diversify your link base (What I mean is don't spend everything on Article Backlinks or Social Bookmarks, allocate a portion to each type of backlink)

Make sure you do the SEO consistently (Its not a 1 time process, it needs regular efforts and time)

Stay away from Black or Grey methods (Since yours is a legit business, a G Slap could be FATAL)

Lastly make sure you focus on multiple keywords.

    Best Regards,

      • I would suggest you make sure any keyword you want to rank for on SERPs is contained on the very page that needs the ranking.
      • Prioritize the targeted keywords on your web page using Heading tags (h1, h2, h3, etc).
      • The most important keyword should be placed in the page title. That's the place search crawlers go to when the visit a page.
      • Use those keywords as anchor texts for your backlinks.
      • Create and regularly update your company's Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter fan pages. You can get direct clicks from there. Moreover, it's easier to rank fan pages on those social sites for competitive keywords. In case you don't know, many businesses dominate Google SERPs using this strategy.
If you need more SEO assistance, don't hesitate to let me know. That's what I do for a living.

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like I'll ba taking the same route I would for a fresh AdSense site, just on a much larger scale.

So I'll basically just be using articles, forum sigs, organic links via FB/Twitter posts, etc. Are there any other methods big businesses use for their off-page SEO that I'm not thinking of?

I'm going to sound like a complete noob even though I've earned thousands of dollars from IM since I started but...what exactly is a Press Release? Is that something like a Digg post?

Press release - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Its more or less like a news story sent to online media sites, could be for an upcoming event, a new product, an achievement. (Not something that sounds self promotional)
The links from Press Release sites are 'high authority' & can occupy page 1 on Google within a few hours of being released/published.

In my experiment, client's website (inner page) was at Page 3, however a week later its on Page 1 Spot 9 for the particular keyword (The only thing we did was Press Release, for the particular page).

      Hope it helps.
