Lately I've been burying myself in the study of IM. Bought WSO here and there, downloaded free ones, and read a lot of threads.

But the truth is, I'm an SEO guy. I've been doing SEO for a long time. Not enough to be considered a sage or a "guru", but I've pretty much seen everything in the past decade.

Not wanting to lose my edge in SEO, I want you to ask me ANYTHING about SEO. Of course, I can't answer the questions no one has answers to (What are the EXACT ranking factors of Google? Is Matt Cutts really the devil?), but those that can be resolved by experience are fair game.

Now let it rip!

HI, I recently bought a Backlink sale service business. Its based on wordpress template. I would like to boost the sales. What other methods apart from Google Adwords are there? If Adwords PPC method is best, what kind of meta tags, descriptions and keywords to be used in order to make best use of Adwords. Any other suggestions or SEO techniques to increase my sales.

A backlink service based on a Wordpress template? Is this a backlink network where members are required to have links in the footer/blog roll/some widget with shuffling backlinks?

What is the most panda proof off-page SEO strategy at the moment?

What is the best length for an article now? 500? 1000? 2000?

Text-anchor variation... how much does it matter?

Article marketing and blog commenting still work, as long as you narrow down your list of submission sites and blogs to those not branded by Google as part of the "bad neighborhood." For article directories, look for PR and the amount of articles they already have. Maybe do a spot check. If 8 out of 10 links you click on have poorly spun garbage content, move on. For blog comments, PR + low outbound links.

      Then there's SENuke X.

As for text-anchor, you can just look at link profiles of the top 10 results for any keyword and you'll see that quantity doesn't always win. Aside from on-page and domain age factors, the anchor text used in backlinks pointing to those sites make a huge difference.

I don't know where you heard that, but I personally haven't done any testing pertaining to the value of .org domains. I find no reason to believe .org links should be given any special treatment either.

Matt Cutts tends to mislead more than to inform, but I believe he was being honest when he said .edu links don't weigh much more than .com links. The premise behind the whole thing is silly anyway - Google gives more weight to .edu links because .edu domains are difficult to acquire? Does that mean one backlink on an extremely expensive .brand TLD (.canon, for one) will be worth several hundred links?

Besides, those .edu links sellers spam on pages with hundreds of outbound links already. Remember that high OBL is always bad.

For local domains, backlinks from local IPs and domains are great, but not necessary. If you're looking at a general strategy, you'll want to add Google Places listings which can be boosted by business listings, citations, and reviews.

What types of links are you getting? You could buy a thousand of those cheap .edu links on Fiver but still not break into the top 100 for that highly competitive keyword.

Add an additional keyword. The term "Web Design Company" says NOTHING. Someone who types this is isn't searching for anything specific enough to merit the work getting the result.

Now "buy web design service" or something like that might be worth targeting. Like the SEO expert guy said, you'll need a lot of firepower to gain a major keyword phrase in web design. You'd be better off targeting an exact match phrase that shows intent to buy, IMHO.

I agree as far as targeting "buying" keywords go, but I wouldn't devalue a keyword with 368,000 monthly broad searches and 40,500 exact searches. If (that's a big IF) you hit the top 5 there, you'll get some serious organic traffic.

Getting a return on your investment is another thing, however.

No question. So he should probably do a competitive analysis and see if he can actually get to the top. I would imagine the "Web Design" keywords are some of the worst cut-Throat targets around Lots of template links, etc. Most of them probably very aged. Directory listings from aged pages, footer links, old recips that are still running, etc.

          Very tough, IMHO

This will sound cliche, but you just need original high quality content, really. As long as your content is original, offers value to readers, and has keywords peppered in at 2-5% density, you're good to go.

Panda has a lot to do with duplicate content and links from bad link farms, remember?

Google doesn't crawl Google Docs, so no. The only time I ever see links from Google Docs/e-mail in tracking software is when there is incoming traffic from those links, i.e. someone clicked on them.

Wouldn't have imagined arms dealers trying to shoot on to the 1st place of google, infact Im gonna google it now and see whose gunning for what (excuse the puns)

Sounds like the Google dance "phenomenon" to me. How is your on-page like? If both home page and that other landing page are optimized for the same keyword, you'll experience Google dance while Google decides where to put your pages in its ranking.

Not to mention, new websites tend to have really unstable rankings.

Have you tried making a website rank using just a link wheel? I have, like many others did, and it worked. Your links juice each other while sending juice to your money site. What can go wrong?

I'm not telling anyone to hire anybody. What I did was suggest to that person to check out the Warriors for Hire forum, because the threads there offer diagrams of really good link wheels.

As for paid links, "does google hate paid links" is a good keyword. I'm sure there are others, but you should do your own homework.

Besides, I said Google frowns upon paid links. I didn't say Google hates paid links.

I've heard that when building up your network of blogs that are based around a niche and then linking those link-wheels to your money page....well having those other blogs on a different C class block matters in the eyes of google. In other words, NOT having all your domains and blogs in the link-wheel on the same hosting service....so as to make google believe that your link wheel is from different bloggers...

Of course, IP diversity is always a good thing. It's always better when more unique IPs are pointing to your domain, no matter what the kind of source. It makes your link profile look more natural to Google.

What is duplicate content? Some people argue that it means more than one of the same articles on the same website. Other people argue its [more than one] article used all over the interweb.

Also, if it's more than one article used all over the interweb, why do websites (some major websites such as Amazon) rank so well when they repost manufacture content and/or press releases?

It seems 'some' sites outrank the original source....

Those major websites have high authority and tons of backlinks, and that's why they rank so well.

As for duplicate content, the rules for that have always been sketchy. I do believe Google has a certain threshold, and when the number of "duplicate" or even "very similar" pages reach that threshold, subsequent pages will be omitted in the regular search results.

We can see this theory of mine manifest in affiliate sites. Depending on the number of times a sales letter has been duplicated/spun, you may or may not end up in the omitted results for doing the same.

Here's my question: why do people work so hard to try to fool Google? Wouldn't it be easier to spend that time getting merit-based links that are totally legit and don't violate Google's TOS? There are companies that do this and rank well for their keywords.

You're already working so hard trying to make those black (or grey) hat techniques work, and then putting in even more work to change things when Google updates their algo.

It's human nature. People always want the easy way out. Easy way to get rich, easy way to lose weight, easy way to get to the front page of Google, etc.

The companies you are talking about probably have established brands that get linked to with less effort, anyway.

    Hi there,

When creating a new sight how many links are enough in the beginning? I notice one of my sights which is 3 months old was on the 2nd page and I had hired someone from warrior to hire build 100 links per day and now my site is still indexed but not even in the top 1000 according to market samurai. Yes it could be the google dance but its been 2 months without being ranked. Do you think 100 links a day for a fairly new sight is too much? Thanks

      Serious SEO question:

Is it possible (or does anyone know how) to remove spam profile and spam forum links pointing to a site?

We hired someone to "build backlinks," and they spam-linked thousands of really ugly foreign (non-U.S.) profile links and forum links to our site.

Consequently, our aged authority site dropped from Google Page One, #4, #5 to #13, #14 on our primary keyword, and similarly on secondary keywords.

      Thanks.

I used to love profile links when it first introduced, but more and more XRumer user spamming the whole Internet forums, owner take precaution and they don't work as well any more.

When everyone is using profile links, I starts to focus on blog network, and I have many success with AMA, Articleranks and my own network.

If your site's ranking drop, all you need to do is rebuild the backlinks you've loss, I think they should recover pretty soon.

SEO is like crack. Your website gets addicted to it, and when it doesn't get any, it's going down. There are factors that help against depreciation, though, such as domain age and authority. I suggest reinforcing your domain first so you can worry less.

One more question, if I may.

when going for web 2.0 properties to build backlinks to your website, is it like:
    - you create an account at hubpages, post unique article with one link to your website, and then that is it for one account, like one week later you create another account at hubpages with another unique post that points to your website?

    - or you create an account at hubpages, post unique articles on the same account for your website, like 1 unique post per week, with diversity in anchor text?

    Hi,
I would appreciate if you can help me getting response to those questions:

1- still paul & angela profile's backlinks working? How long should we wait to get link juice from such profile backlinks?

2- when building backlinks using paul and angela packs, how many anchor text or keywords should we put 1, 2 or can go with 5 for example?

3- What does fresh content means if we need to maintain spot #1 on google? If I rewrite my articles and republish them, is it considered as fresh content or google make contextual matching to see if if the posted content is really new one?

    Thank you.

Link Wheels, Pyramids and general "backlinking backlinks" works for a VERY SIMPLE reason:

The more links point to another link/property....the higher the chance that a link is to be found.

You can make 5 web2.0 properties pointing to your site. If you are unlucky, 4 don't get indexed. But if you make 5 properties and let another 5 links/bookmarks point to each (in kind of a snowflake/star formation)...well chances are 1000x higher that your properties indexed. And this means more links -> link juice and better rankings.

Although i personally dont see any sense in doing any "scheme" with more than simple 2 tiers..i think it's all about simplicity and doing it smart.

I can't think of a reason why too little or too much of PR6 backlinks can be bad. Some will help, a lot will help greatly, but I don't think Google is particularly on the hunt for specific numbers of PR6 backlinks pointing to one page/domain.

I have a question regarding ranking power a backlink.

When buying an aged PR 6 domain, which of the following has more ranking power?

    - 15000 backlinks spread over 5000 domains
    - 15000 backlinks spread over 50 domains

Does domain diversity have anything to do with the ranking power of a backlink?

It depends upon the value of each of the pages those links are on and reputation of the sites.

Would you rather have 15,000 backlinks from 50 domains like Wikipedia, CNN Interactive, The Huffington Post, NASA, etc..?

Or would you rather have 15000 links from 5000 hot off the press Blogger, Squidoo, and Wordpress.com sites?

In other words, your question has no real answer without addressing the quality of the links.

I can answer this for you because it should be obvious if you followed the last months on any webmaster/seo forum.

      1.) Good quality content
      2.) Good quality content
      3.) Good quality content

4.) Good site navigation + User experience, providing value and making a GOOD site in regards to a topic. The "harder" the keyword to rank, the more you have to try to establish an authority site.
5.) Link building as usual, with a BIG focus again on quality context links, quality articles etc., blog networks are USUALLY good. No garbage links like blog comments or profiles.
6.) Additional boosting of your site and the links themselves by creating "social buzz"...this is, after panda LIKELY increased influence of social sites links like twitter, facebook and so forth.
7.) Keep this diverse and steady, avoid all the garbage links, bad neighborhoods, PR0 "article sites" which 9 zillion of spun articles...blogs with 9 million vi@gra links on it.

If the above is all right, that is, if you have indeed a good site giving the visitor what they are looking for PLUS halfway reasonable link building etc. you can ALMOST rank anything. If you think it needs a boost and you are stuck...probably more "social buzz" and more social marketing to give it an additional boost.
