I am new to SEO and I have been trying to improve my PR rank. Right now it is at PR0. Not where I want it to be but I am not sure how to improve that.

I have registered with Tumblr and found and linked to about 25 sites with PR 3-5 and a few with a PR6. That has been over a month ago and still no change to my PR.

What are some other thing I can do to improve my PR?

First question you have got to ask yourself is why you want to increase your PR?

PR is only relevant if you are wanting to sell links off your site and thats pretty much it. It is not important to enable you to rank in the SERPs as you can outrank anything withpit having any pagerank showing.

Also bear in mind that PR is only a snapshot of your site at one moment in time and is only updated maybe copule of times a year. You may have a PR5 site but the resources will only show what it was at the last update.

Forget about PR and concentrate on unique quality content.

PR is not something you should keep an eye on, and try to increase it. Even if you get a good ranking it fluctuates so you may be a 7 at one point early in the year and be a 5 another time.

Another thing you can do to help your PR is to consistantly build a wide variety of good quality backlinks. By wide variety, I mean social bookmarks, videos and video-embeds, articles and file-shares, RSS feeds (if appropriate), directory submissions, comments on blogs, web2.0 links, comments and sigs on forums, etc. However it's important that they are good quality, and created steadily and not too many at first for a new site.

One of the best ways to avoid any problems for creating too many backlinks for a new site, is to put unique articles on a few web2.0 sites (like Squidoo, Hubpages etc.) linking to your main site then you can build large numbers of links to that 2.0 page, and get the benefit of the link-power which will mostly pass through to your site, without any of the dangers from building too many links too quick to your own site.

Backlinks should be made to look as natural as possible to the search engines (hint, my sig. gives some little-known info on this!).

As someone else said, also make sure you build unique and quality content on your own site, as well as doing some effective on-page-SEO. Focus on traffic and conversions rather than PR.

    Hi Stripe,

If you keep on working on your site and back link your site from decent high PR pages, your PR will naturally increase. I think you shouldnt worry about your PR. It has no effect on you actually ranking for search terms.

Go for SERP position, not PR ok?

    Good luck mate.

Are you referring the way to make backlinks on tumblr..that site:tumblr.com "liked this"...I just found it a waste because those backlinks are too much volatile and they get disappeared within 5-6 hours...they are of no use...I found it like that only..if anybody have got results from that...do share..do make backlinks from basic ideas like:blog commenting, forums, article marketing, link wheels etc..they will surely help you..try to get unique content and select keywords for them very much wisely..it will surely give to higher rank..

    Hey Stripe,

Why do you want to increase your PR score?

Don't you want to work on your rankings first?

These are two separate things. PR does not give you rankings, traffic, or sales.

The way to increase your PR score is by gaining dofollow backlinks from other high PR pages.

    • Hi Stripe,

We helped a client register a domain and set up a Wordpress site with custom logo, layout and images for their non-stock, non-profit non-government organization. It went from Google PR N/A to Google PR 3 in barely five months. What did we do for them?

      1. Developed relevant onsite content beneficial for their target viewer markets...

      2. Developed a Facebook account for their social media promotions via onsite content and organization activity updates...

      3. Regularly connected with their social and professional networks, comprised of relevant local and international non-stock, non-profit non-government and government organizations, their membership base, most of whom have their own blogs and some of whom frequently participate in relevant local and international Web forums and online communities, i.e. University forums, Facebook groups and blog networks among others...

      4. Helped them develop offline activities that promote their organization brand name and website...

      5. Advised them to continue doing numbers 1 to 4 above...

I asked them if I could post a link to their site in my post here, and they agreed, so here's their website...

As you may have noticed: The Google PR of their homepage and their other pages naturally improved with the methods mentioned above. However, the best results they get from doing the things above are:

      Relevant and updated content useful for their target audiences;
Wider brand exposure to their target audiences; and
higher popularity within their target networks...

Page rank is not so important these days, although I noticed my rankings seemed to improve a little when I went from PR 3 to PR 4. Maybe it was a coincidence. You can get paid good money for a high page rank link, that's mainly why I was interested in this thread.

PR is updated constantly. Unfortunately, we really only see the updates a handful of times a year. PR still plays a role in ranking. As much as it used too? Perhaps not. But it does still play a role.

The main way to increase your own PR is by obtaining dofollow backlinks from PR1 or higher pages.

The best thing I can suggest is to get fresh content for the site regularly...It helps a lot to get a good PR within 5-6 months.... A week ago my blog
    www dot lern2earn.blogspot dot com
got PR1 and you can check that all fresh posts there get Listing on Google 1st page if you search the keyword. So I would say Google loves Fresh things and give Google some fresh vegetables and Google will give you fresh fruits (PR) ;-) in few months.
Also I would recommend to get more and more quality Backinks (which is easy to advice but hard to to for starters)..
    Thats all I can say

That sounds like good advice along with the confirmations on this post that PR may not mean as much as it once did. Still, I know increasing it will not hurt at all.

      Thanks!

Early in this post I was asked why I wanted to increase my PR.

The site I am trying to increase the PR for is a business site for a friend of mine. Our #1 competitor has a PR 2 and an EMD or partial EMD for a lot of the keywords used to find his business.

I am new to SEO and I figured increasing our PR would help boost us up.

I have already built about 4 times the number of backlinks they competition has, we have a domain name that is 4 years old, and much better content on our site. The problem is they are still ranking higher in Google then us in every keyword I have tried.

What else can I do? More of the same and increase our PR...

        Does that make sense?

who said you only PR increment will help you to beat your competitors?

There are trust, authority and relevance these 3 major factors you need to consider including PR.

I would recommend you to get some quality backlinks. Ace of Spades

Content doesn't have anything to do with PR. However, content plays a big factor in your rankings. A lot of people confuse PR with rankings. They're two totally different things. However, PR plays a role in your rankings, and is raised by building quality backlinks.

Good content (on-page SEO) + a high PR (from quality backlinks) = a higher ranking in the search engines.

Pagerank is not only depend on the backlinks or only to the social media. But many factors like quality traffic and backlinks , quality content , conversion rate & bounce rate and many factors. So try to get the quality backlinks from the high authority sites and also try to get the more engagement of the people for the high conversion rate and for the low bounce rate. And try to get the each page rank value higher so your overall site rank can be better.

Not true. PR is all about link popularity or amount of dofollow backlinks.

Sorry, but the ONLY thing that contributes to PR is backlinks.

Of course, try to avoid getting obsessed over PR. It's great to have a high PR site or page but it's not the be-all-end-all. You can outrank a site with higher PR if your on-page SEO is better. The goal is to have both. Good on-page SEO and quality backlinks to help boost your PR.

High PR + good on-page SEO = better rankings.

vjandroid1 -> do you think that using Tumblr is a waste of time then or it is just another useful tool like say Squidoo and Hubpages? I have created the odd Tumblr and link keywords to the website I want to promote. However the technique I was trying to duplicate seems to be what you are saying does not work - i.e. 'like' high PR Tumblrs and you'll get a link back to your Tumblr?

There are several ways to improve PR of your site. Use the lots of Meta keyword and don't repeat single word more than three time in per line. Add a at least one link to your search engine. Use a multiple H1 tag in your html document. Write ............ (dot..dot) at the end of your page. Create more than 3 page of your site link their each other like, page1>>>>>>>>>>page2 . Their all techniques is mostly use to increase the PR of site.
