AS one effect with this, Google usually increases its crawler activity after it sees the site has a new home. Probably wanting to make sure if everything is working properly.

I moved several blogs from various hosts to a consolidated account with Hostgator last May. I didn't see any negative results, nor did it effect my earnings in any noticeable way.

Thanks for prompt response. I would appreciate if some one can direct me to a blog post of something about the best procedure to follow while doing such transfers so that there is not much downtime.

I changed hosts from GoDaddy to HostGator because GoDaddy hosting continually crashed..

Not much happened other than a pain in the ass changing servers..

Yeah as long as the switch goes smoothly (no broken links or missing pages/images) everything should be fine from an SEO standpoint.

If your website is transferred 'as is' from one host to the other, you will be fine. Google will not punish you for moving from one web hosting account to another, regardless of where that new web hosting account is.

    Something to keep in mind:

When you are moving your website, you need to ensure you get the least amount of downtime possible.

Plan ahead. Make it so that you don't experience any downtime.

I would preface my statements with.....results may vary....and for us, the answer to your question is yes, it will affect your site rankings temporarily. Its happened to me on numerous occasions. The first 2 times was because we were changing providers and the site was down, the other times were when we were making changes to the site and the site was down, when yahoo actually was spidering us, the next thing you know rank dropped and the caption for the site read that the site was down, but then during the next reindexing we were back up to our normal spot. and Actually, lately the DNS changes(for me) have been pretty quick and not the normal stated 24 hours...my 2 cents...so dont worry....

Just be sure to add the site to the new hosting and repoint the DNS while leaving the current site as it is at the old host.

Give it a couple days for the DNS to propagate before canceling the old hosting and you won't have any downtime or any problems.

I would love to move my 14 year old domain from Register.com to HostGator because that is were my Hosting is. I am too afraid to move it! Was told some time ago that the "age" matters.

The age of your site and domain doesn't change because you change hosting. "People" say a lot of things - and often don't know what they are talking about. Sometimes it's how we interpret what people say that is the problem.

Changing to a new host is a simple matter. Just plan ahead so the site stays online and it's an easy conversion.
