Check this out after the backlink packet guys got a hold of an un-moderated PR5 page on a major site.

LOL. What's with the person that left their links in the GIGANTIC font? Maybe they heard the links would carry more weight if they font was bigger.

Your comment made me laugh Lee.

I used to use these backlink packets a while ago but found that when I checked them with a backlink checker after about 4 weeks most of the links had been removed. I must say that back then I knew no better so unfortunately did spam sites. I now do all my backlinking manually and although it does take a while I feel happier knowing that my backlinks will be around for a long time.

Oh dear. Just goes to show - the old-fashioned way is best! I get more business from writing real posts and comments on websites I actually care about than I ever have from spamming (yeah, I think a lot of us have unfortunately tried that at one time or another...).

Zdnet.com was pretty much unmoderated and its a pr8 site with plenty of pr5,6 and 7 and some pr8 to choose from and a lot of the pages had hardly any obl on them.

It was a great resource but once the word got out and the spammers got in (I suppose I should include myself) it died an instant death. The comments are still there and the anchor text but it no longer links anywhere.

      Shame.

Lol this is not the first time I see something like this, but I was quite amazed here...
And people actually pay for this? You can get penalized for this, I would ask for my money back

As kimkitch said I also do my backlinks manually myself so I know they are placed good and will stay longer...

As for the big font, let me ask you something. Why do you use header tags in your posts?

So, you're saying he just put it in a header tag and that's what the CSS (or whatever) on that site has for that header tag then? That makes sense but is there a benefit to having your link in an H1 tag? I use them to improve my on page SEO but I didn't know there was a benefit to having a link in one. Unless you mean that he's trying to make the page itself seem more relevant to his keywords?

My goodness, I've never seen such backlinking madness, especially that bigass font block of posts . Some of the comments are pretty funny:

"I agree with your conclusions and will eagerly look forward to your incoming updates. Just saying thanks will not just be adequate, for the wonderful clarity in your writing. It is imperative that we read blog post very carefully" (then a random link for something or other).

The backlinks in header tags stood out to us, they will stand out to Google as well. What would you think had more authority, the backlinks in h1 tags or the hundreds of other backlinks that are basically all the same. It's just one way of standing out in a crowd so to speak, so i'm just saying I think you were right in your first post.

**** that page put my already taxed firefox over the limit.

On another note ..I feel recently google has gotten better at not counting links from pages like this. Not penalties, just zero link value.
