Ranked on google.com but not .co.uk

So two weeks ago I finally created a local niche website. Earlier yesterday my page finally got ranked by google, but only google.com. Now seeing as its a local niche for people in the UK, this is practically useless for me as everyone in the UK gets automatically redirected to google.co.uk, where for some reason I am not ranked.

Is there any reason for this? My host is a UK host, and although I am using a .com domain it's obvious that shouldn't make a huge difference. And my site has the towns name all over it. The one thing It doesn't have is "UK" anywhere on the site. Is this where it's gone wrong?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have you enabled and set the geotargeting options within Google Webmaster Tools? When I do this for my local websites, the google.com rankings drop (don't really care about them anyway) but the local Google rankings shoot up quite a bit.

Where are you getting links to your site from? In order to rank well in uk not only do you need to have hosting in the UK but you should be getting links from other IP addresses in the UK.

Webmaster update may help but really is not always necessary.

Getting backlinks from UK domains is helpful, slightly, but not worth spending your time on seeking out as its a poor return on time invested. You will probably find that either a) your site isn't yet indexed in Google UK or b) you are experiencing a form of Google dance on Google UK.

I've had sites before rank on Google.com on the first page whilst on Google UK it's not in the top 1,000 results. Keep building backlinks and don't worry, at least not until a month down the line.
