On my new Niche I know a lot of kws I want to target, i want to start putting up subpages targeting those kws but I am not sure at all what I want the main index to say yet

can those subpages start to rank first, or does google say, where is the root domain page for this url? and if its not there, they dont like it

I want to wait awhile to put up the root domain main page, is that ok?

Were you intending having any internal links on your subpages? If not, then effectively all those subpages will be like mini standalone sites and they wouldn't even get indexed unless you built some backlinks to them.

Why not just put up a basic home page for now with links to your internal pages. You can always tweak and add content later.

Ya I guess that might work, I just dont want to write the main content of the index page since I am not sure what I want to say on there, and I dont want to change it later. Thanks for the input

as you say it might be better to write a very basic home page which can be expanded on later

I agree, you need an index page to get indexed first, build keyword rich links from that to your subpages, your index page does not have to be perfect, but a good basic page should work.

Yeap a main root site will always be better than a subdomain. It would be very hard if you create a subdomain first and work on it, hoping it would get indexed and rank. Doing SEO on a subdomain is more than 3x as hard as doing it on a root one.

No I was not talking about a subdomain

    Just the subpages created first

    This is not a recommendation...just a question...

Why not do a 301 redirect of your home page to your sitemap page? Then you have content, it points to all of your internal pages, and should avoid all of the problems...
