Anyone have one?
Yukon did you ever finish yours?

  • I'm also interested in this... no simple solution for WP yet (except Clickbump, but it still links to index pages from silos and support pages), and I believe Yukon can do it .

    • Index page is supposed to be linked to by Silo landing pages. If we all waited until Yukon finished his theme or plugin, we would be a few years older by then

  • I'm patiently waiting for Yukon's silo WP theme as well
  • You really have to understand the structure before you can successfully implement it
I doubt anything will ever be plug and play, its just , well someday maybe but I am not holding my breath. Clickbump is already 99 percent there though, but its NOT plug and play, you have to know the settings

    • Yeah, I have it, and tried to use it. I'm just so familiar with Thesis that I didn't put the work into Clickbump.

But IMO my thesis set up is as good as it gets. No leakage (other than contact us, about, privacy, disclosure (which are all no-followed)) Not much you can do there.

My only navigation is breadcrumbs once you leave the homepage. I have no navigation in my sidebars, all related articles after every article, etc.

SO all-in-all I do have a plug and play, but I have activate the plugins each time. I just cloned the template now it takes me 15 minutes to set up. Maybe less.
  • Ya but you had to understand Silo in order to make the theme settings correctly to be able to clone them

takes a while to understand Silo structure

    • No doubt... I had no idea prior to reading Yukon's epic thread. I spent a lot of time researching, etc. But in the process I learned a ton.

    • Is it come "out of the box" set up properly, and the only settings to change are things like colors, etc. I bought clickbump and jumpstart pro, and to be honest they are very complex for what they do (well not jumpstart pro). It might just be because I'm a Thesis user and just used to it. But the sheer number of settings is crazy, and it's not intuitive to me.

This isn't a knock on your product, it's just very confusing for me. Maybe I missed some documentation that would make things easier.
  • At least we all give credit to Yukon, he is the Silo expert on the board.

    • I like to think of him as a silo jedi.

  • Just so that you know Yukon Clickbump is not plug and play, it does pull off a pretty good silo though, but still not perfect yet, and you must disable some widgets etc to get a good silo structure, its not a default structure. Anyone who doesnt understand silo and just waddles through a setup will not get a Silo. Anyone who does understand Silo, once they figure out what buttons to click, can get a pretty close Silo within a few minutes, but it does take awhile to get used to.

. I would stack its ABILITY to lay out a Silo wordpress blog against most of whats out there though., In fact I dont think there is anything out there that can compete with it at this time. Silo is not easy to implement. Good luck with your plugin

All of you programmers out there capable of generating Silo themes, To Scott and Yukon and people smart enough to do this? My hats off to you. Definitely no easy task
  • I didn't even know Yukon was developing a Silo theme.....someone holding out on us!

  • Anyone else here thinks it's a little weird that there are not already tons of solutions for this out in the WP plugin communities?

There are WP plugins for just about every obscure purpose that you can imagine but not one that can handle a simple structuring and linking of parent pages to child pages with child pages interlinked and linked back to category/parent pages.

It just seems so simple. Silo should be a pretty mainstream concept by now. What gives?

No not really, considering a plugin would only create the links of the silo, the rest of an ordinary WP-theme would dilute the whole concept with junk internal/external links.

IMO, it's totally impossible to create a WP silo plugin, it has to be an entire theme structure from the start, otherwise it's just another regular old WP-theme even If it's running a plugin that produces a silo.

Anyone that says they have a silo plugin is BSing, just for sales.

Silos have been around for 10+ years, the reason most folks don't run them is they are so stuck on external backlinks they think that's the only form of SEO (which is wrong). Plus the fact that a well structured site requires up front work, which the average IMer/webmaster won't do, because it's work.

Most folks do basic on-page SEO because that's all they have learned after reading thousands of rehashed blogs/forums.

My advise for anyone that's serious about SEO is learn the silo structure & why it works from your own testing. Don't take my word for it or anyone else for that matter, setup a site/blog & test it for yourselves, I think you'll be surprised at your SERP results.

Don't get me wrong external backlinks are still needed, but we own our sites so might as well max that out SEO wise before doing the hard work (external SEO).
  • I know this thread is kind of old now, but I just ran across it when I was doing a Google search a few minutes ago. If any of you are still looking for a Silo plugin, my mentor and I released one last fall. It took him a couple of weeks to pound the silo concept into my head, and then I took that and explained it in chunks to a programmer.

The end results is that we created a WordPress plugin called Simple Silo that will do a fully silo structure for you. I created the directions myself and we've had many sales since with absolutely no complaints. We do handle all the customer service and all.

I didn't mean for this to be a "blatant advertisement" or anything of the like, but it does sound like the answer the what everyone was looking for last year and earlier this year. We have a demo copy up that will do a limited silo so you can at least see what it's like.

You can check it out at Wordpress SEO Plugins: Simple Silo Builder (not an affiliate ad...like I said, I helped to create it). Please feel free to PM me with any questions and I'll answer them as quickly as I can.
