Should I be nervous about this?

I was checking my awstats and noticed that someone searched my site by it's exact url (.com included). Because my site is still very new (just under 3 weeks old) i found this to be a bit weird. So i did a whois on the IP addy and it came back to the G. Should I be at all concerned by this? My site is not a generic MFA, it provides useful content for its targeted demographic...but I can't figure why someone from the G offices would be searching my exact domain name.

I doubt the whois results were accurate
but is possible you were checked by a Google engineer

maybe someone in google fancied buying a domain. And when they found out it had gone recently, they came to have a look.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I haven't received any messages from G, so I'll take it that everything is ok. It was just weird that the IP came from their offices...if it was someone manually checking my site to make sure that I was within the TOS, I suppose they would have sent me a message if I wasn't.

Nope, they'd just ban you without warning, but relax, probably just a standard manual review and as long as your site doesn't use any shady blackhat techniques you are safe.

If you freak out you may lose more... stress and fear and that's the last thing you need. just continue and work with the TOS of Big G and you will be fine.

    Thanks

Reading some of the threads on this board, there are a ton of people claiming that they were banned and didn't know why. I don't want to be part of that group so I asked a question. Is that ok with you?

G$$gle won't reveal to you how you infringed their TOS, they will only tell you that you have, then it's up to you to correct it. If it not too serious they will email you and ask you to fix it within a period of time, sometimes they will just stop feeding ads to the site but will not close your Adsense site.

If you have not done anything wrong then you have nothing to worry about. G$$gle is selling a service and they have to make sure it's not being abused, otherwise if could affect their business

  • I wouldn't worry about anything until you get the dreaded e-mail, (and I hope you don't)

Just stay within the TOS and hope for the best.

You two are right - thanks again for the feedback! I have nothing to worry about since I'm well within their TOS.

An a seperate note.... why don't you use something like Google Analytics instead of Awstats. I found Awstats to be not that great and the figures don't always tie up. GA gives you loads more stats.

    Just a thought.

I have awstats, analytics, and another wordpress based plug-in that I use. They all reported the same info. That same IP also did a domainwhois search on my site as well.
