I have one keyword in 2nd position, 1st page of google since Tuesday morning, 12/20/2011 but I have not received any traffic from this keyword. What may be causing this to happen? How may this be fixed? Keyword global monthly traffic is 22,000.

  • What is the local traffic? One day is not a large amount of time.

    • Thank you. The local traffic is 15,000 monthly. Are google adwords keyword traffic estimations accurate?

  • Check if your Searches# is "Broad" or "Exact". You may get a Global Searches of 20k for "Broad" but only a few hundreds in "Exact" for some keywords.

Additionally, your SERP may be dancing but it wasn't reflected in your Google search. Try Scroogle to check where you rank.

    Hope that helps!

  • As stated, make sure it is an exact search and not broad...This will make a significant difference in the search volume during keyword research. Also, give it some time. It could be a fairly low exact search that only gets 250 searches a month. Now, In second position (and not even first), will you receive 100% of the traffic searching the keyword.

On average for this example that would come out to 8.3 hits to your site each day at 100% traffic. Say second rank in google receives 25% of traffic. This would come out to 2.1 clicks to the site for that keyword each day.

Try giving it some time and see if it works out for you.

  • 20th December? Its just one day... Be patient.

Its just 4-5 hours that your website is ranking one... Let people search your keywords and your traffic may rise in few hours.
  • What does webmaster tools say about the number of impressions you are receiving on that keyword? If you are not seeing impressions you are not going to see traffic.
  • Google based search results based on your history so you need to double check and make sure you ranking is where you think it is.
  • Try to wait for days. 1 day is not enough to observe traffic.
  • Is your personalized search on?

    15,000 exact matches?

Please verify your position with scroogle dot org.
  • Sounds like you might be looking at "broad" not "exact"

use google keyword tool and on the left hand side you will see check boxes for broad and exact. Click exact and see if it updates with different search results.

This is quite a common mistake by people when searching for a niche.

    • My keyword exact match for global monthly search is 2900 and local monthly is 1900. Are all google organic keywords search based on exact match? When is broad match used?

  • It really depends on the keyword. Is it a long tail KW? Also, Google Keyword Tool can be off sometimes.
