About the same length as a piece of string.

No one can tell you how much you will be making selling products online, its all down to your ability and worth. But more importantly how badly you want it and willing to act upon that need.

If you're good with seo it can take a week.

If you know nothing about seo it can take years

I don't know what that means. Good seo=$500 in sales?!???!?!

      Makes no sense, actually.

You people are forgetting niche, traffic, how well the sales
page is, who would even friggin want the crazy product,
      etc.

In fact, sales have very little to do with SEO. It's who is
the better con artist. Respectfully speaking, of course.

        Don't play stupid.

If you're good at SEO have a strategy and a good site with great keywords you can go from 0 to $500 on that site in a week.

You blatantly don't use your common sense and try to bring people down.

If that's the case why aren't you making $50,000,000/year or more then?

Took me about a year of messing around reading, then after I started, another seven months until I was making that with Adsense off of one site. That site has peaked out just beyond that, but you keep building more.

I can share some numbers and you can do with them what you will.

I once made a site to promote a physical product on Amazon. The product is available in a $65 model and an $85 model. My site has fewer than 10 articles. I talk about the products, compare the models, show pictures, and such. I haven't touched the site since I created it. I didn't do any backlinking except maybe a couple of bookmarks, a tweet and a blog post to get it indexed.

The (very little) traffic has all been targeted. I rank for searches wanting to know the differences between the models, and for searches about one particular product feature.

You could say my stats are a worst case scenario... what can you get if you make practically no effort. Unfortunately the numbers are so small that you can also say the sample size isn't significant. That's why I say "make of it what you will."

Okay, so, in 1 year I got 1344 unique visitors, per google analytics. Per amazon there were 341 clicks (25%) and 9 of those clicks (2.6% of the 341) resulted in sales.

Doing the math, you could say it would take about 40,000 visits a month for my site to get the 250 sales IMdude123 says you'd need.

It all depends on who you are, how fast you learn, if you 'get it' so to speak. There is not really a one size fits all.

That is such a broad question which absolutely cannot be answered.

If you're looking to make a quick buck, SEO is probably not the way to go. (Unless you feel like putting your black hat on.)

It takes 3 weeks, 6 days, 22 hours, 11 minutes, and 14 seconds...if you haven't done it by then, you have failed and should quit IM for good.

You wanna make $500 a month selling physical products online.

      You have no experience.

      From my personal experience.

      Do adsense.

      500$ per month isn't tricky.

How to go about making that money? I won't tell you...and no one here will.

      You've just got to experiment.

Make blogs, attach some kind of analytic, see how traffic is coming in via keywords, watch the clicks.

In X amount of time you will be on a whole new level.

It all depends my friend. It depends on conversion rates, number of unique visitors, the type of keyword(buyer keyword or informative kw), design of the website, rankings, keyword research, seo competition, ability to persuade, correct link placement.

You could make that with 1 keyword or 100 keywords. It all depends on the commercial intent of the keyword, the exact match searches and how well you rank for it. The actual website matters as well .

    Hope it helps!

IMO you would be better off finding a supplier and selling some kind of product yourself

5% commission doesnt interest me a bit
on my specialty site I am making I make 90% of the sale
which averages $120 per sale so thats about 110 bucks per sale to me

If I am going to spend all that time learning SEO etc I want to make some money not let some other clown keep 95 percent of the money

I'm confused, what is the cause:
      1. One too many Extra Strong Red Horse Beers
      2. It is 1:30AM and my brain is tired.
      3. Reading too many WSO offers.
      4. Believing SEO Experts
      5. All of the Above

I'm so confused because I know the SEO guy has to be the tallest. Every SEO WSO offer, or "for hire" offer claims they are at the top of the heap, which means they are the highest, which from my position on the floor after that last beer makes them the tallest.

Then you have this thing about $40 products with a 5% commission...my head is beginning to spin and it ain't the beer.

Finally, do any of you guys make this kind of money.....huh????? Go read the WSO offers, most everyone is making 10 times that per week after just starting 3 days ago, and if you're not you need to buy just one more ebook so you can, too...

Ok, the beer is finished...It is 1:35AM....I closed the WSO section....I saw one of the SEO guys here say something about con artist, tell me it ain't true...time to sleep....

As most people have said, it all depends.

However, if one were to guess, I'd say you need to drive about 800-1000 uniques/per day. That's assuming ~1% conversion rate, which is the typically rate I get on my ecommerce site from targeted SEO.

Couldn't agree more. Determination is the key. A lot of people are really better off with a day job because they can't handle the effort in the learning curve.
